This plant has been used as a sleep aid for many years, also cats enjoy the herb like they do cat nip for some reason. It is a perennial plant that can grow to about five feet tall. It will produce flowers eventually, they are a light pink in color and attract many pollinators. Bugs such as the Hoverfly are attracted to this plant, this is good as the larvae are insectivores (eating insects) and prey on aphids, thrips, and many other plant-sucking insects.
When I got these plants in the mail they were quite beat up, poor packing made them fall apart and I thought they had no chance of surviving. I usually do not have these problems with shipping, but whoever shipped these really did not try very hard. Just threw them in box and shipped Though I must say it has the drive to survive and has produced some new leaves since planting it.
Now that autumn has arrived it seems to have stopped trying to grow and will probably die back to the surface. If it built up enough energy over the summer and fall I should see some new growth next spring.
Looking forward to next year and hope it grows up big and strong over time. Its always good to have more herbs in the garden, and I think this plant will be a great addition in those regards. I hear this plant is considered a weed in some areas, so curious to see how much it grows and if its going to be much of a concern. Since its so new its hard to say as its just trying to adjust to its new home right now.
