The seedlings are getting bigger, not sure if I can even call them seedlings anymore. I had to move the lights up once and will probably need to again soon. I selected three of the strongest seedlings a few weeks back and put them in their own pots and directly under the light. They are doing great, though some of the other seedlings not under direct light did not do so great. I think I need a better setup for growing them once they are big enough to have their own little pots. But I am just glad I do indeed have three that are quite happy. And I believe they are different types, since I lost their name tags during their move I am unsure of which is which.
The first of the three all the way to the left is doing great. I added some more dirt recently to them all as watering a bunch has packed it down.
The second plant is leaning up against the first, it seems to want to sprawl out more than just grow up.
Lastly the one all the way to the right is also the sprawling kind, if I had to guess this one is the creeping thyme. It grows more long than the others, the first two are more densely filled with leaves and branches while the creeping variety is more like a vine.
I bought some thyme cuttings from my local supermarket, since I had good luck growing the seedlings in water I figured I could try the cuttings. I am hoping this works well, as the cuttings from the markets are much larger than my seedlings and even my three potted thyme plants.
Pulling the leaves off that would be in the water, I placed the cuttings in mason jars and added some tap water.
They have only been in the water for a day now, so it may take a week or longer to see if roots form. I hope its okay for the stems to touch under water, was really hard to get them to stand up by themselves otherwise each would need their own mason jar. If this does not work I will do the later and give each their own jar, even if that takes more space in my little grow room.
I started some pennyroyal and sweet woodruff, though only the Penny royal has germinated so far. I just spaced them out a few days ago as alot of them were growing in clusters.
One of the pennyroyal is much larger than the rest so I gave it a pot for just itself.
In addition to my three thyme pots, one is on the lower level and seems to be doing okay. So maybe I will have four of them by spring time to plant. And then we shall see how the cuttings end up doing in the water.
Here in North Georgia we still have another month or two of frosts, so its not time yet to plant thyme.. lol But soon it will be, and looking forward to my strong seedlings being little bushes and starting their life outdoor. And maybe one day, with enough of them I can form a thyme lawn.
