Desde hace unos años he sido más consiente con el uso de la ropa, ser consiente del uso, de las compras y sobretodo de la vida útil de una prenda.

Cuando vivía en Venezuela creé un perfil de Instagran donde vendía y hacía trueque de ropa que ya no usaba pero estaba en buen estado, y de esa forma llegué a adquirir ropa usada en buen estado para mí, y lo mismo para otras.
Ya pronto voy a cumplir un año en Colombia y me he sorprendido gratamente al ver la cantidad de tiendas de segunda mano que existen, las ferias que se realizan en torno a la venta de ropa usada, o productos elaborados reciclando ropa y la conciencia que hay entre los jóvenes por el tema del UPCYCLING.

Since a few years ago I have been more conscious with the use of clothes, being aware of the use, purchases and above all the useful life of a garment.

When I lived in Venezuela I created an Instagran profile where I sold and bartered clothes that I no longer wore but were in good condition, and in that way I came to acquire used clothes in good condition for me, and the same for others.
I will soon be a year in Colombia and I have been pleasantly surprised to see the number of second-hand stores that exist, the fairs that are held around the sale of used clothes, or products made by recycling clothes and awareness among young people on the issue of UPCYCLING.

El UPCYCLING es el aprovechamiento, supra-reciclaje o sobreutilización de materiales de desecho para la elaboración de artículos nuevos.
La idea es darle nuevo valor a las cosas y/o un mejor uso, eso aplica ara ropa, accesorios, bolsos, etc. Mucha gente en la actualidad está creando a partir de residuos de tela o accesorios, es un mundo muy interesante de conocer.

No puedo decir que toda mi ropa es de segunda mano porque estaría mintiendo, pero sí he comprado muchas cosas usadas en buen estado.

Comprar de segunda tiene muchas ventajas:

1- Evitamos que mucha de esta ropa sea botada a la basura y termine contaminando nuestro planeta.
2- Alargamos la vida útil de las prendas.
3- Reducimos la huella de carbono.
4- Promovemos la economía circular.
5- Podemos comprar piezas a un menor precio.

UPCYCLING is the utilization, supra-recycling or over-utilization of waste materials for the elaboration of new articles.
The idea is to give new value to things and/or a better use, this applies to clothes, accessories, bags, etc. Many people are currently creating from fabric waste or accessories, it is a very interesting world to know.

I can't say that all my clothes are second hand because I would be lying, but I have bought many things used in good condition.
Buying second hand has many advantages:
1- We avoid that many of these clothes are thrown away and end up polluting our planet.
2- We extend the useful life of the clothes.
3- We reduce our carbon footprint.
4- We promote circular economy.
5- We can buy pieces at a lower price.

Uno de los mitos más grandes acerca de esta forma de adquirir ropa es que es “antihigiénico, y eso está muy alejado de la realidad, las personas que tienen tiendas de segunda mano de forma online o de forma presencial suelen ser muy cuidadosos con entregar prendas limpias y debidamente presentadas.

No solo puedes buscar tiendas que vendan ropa, también suele ser conveniente buscar proyectos de trueque en tu ciudad o hacerlo con un grupo de amigas o familiares.
El trueque funciona muy bien para intercambiar piezas que no uses por la pieza de ropa de otra persona que te interese, y nuevamente estarías contribuyendo al ambiente y la reducción de desechos que en su gran mayoría tardan demasiados años en bio-degradarse.

One of the biggest myths about this form of acquiring clothes is that it is "unhygienic, and that is far from reality, people who have second hand stores online or in person are usually very careful to deliver clean and properly presented garments.
Not only can you look for stores that sell clothes, it is also convenient to look for barter projects in your city or do it with a group of friends or family.
Bartering works very well to exchange pieces that you do not use for a piece of clothing of another person that interests you, and again you would be contributing to the environment and the reduction of waste that mostly take too many years to biodegrade.

Una prenda de algodón tarde entre 1 y 5 meses en degradarse, pero un jeans necesita 1.500 para su elaboración, y tarda en degradarse entre 3 y 5 años.
Entonces, puedes darte cuenta de la importancia de darle vida a la ropa el mayor tiempo posible. Incluso puedes crear bolsos, forros y accesorios a partir de ropa que ya no uses y así evitas que sea botada y tarde todo ese tiempo en descomponerse.
Otro ejemplo es la ropa sintética, que tarda 40 años en descomponerse, y lo más impactante aún son las prendas de nylon que tardan 500 años en dejar de ser un contaminante para el ambiente.

El cuidado del medio ambiente es una acción de todos, pero es fundamental entender que no es solo cuidar el agua, el aire y el suelo, si no que existen otras pequeñas acciones diarias que contribuyen con la mejora de nuestro planeta. Si la ecología no es lo que te interesa, piensa en estas opciones como una reducción de tus gastos económicos y poder comprar ropa que te encante a precios que te fascinen.

If ecology is not what interests you, think of these options as a reduction of your economic expenses and be able to buy clothes that you love at prices that fascinate you.
