Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. If you are conversant with the media - Television, social media, print media and so on, you'd agree with me that it has made people believe that slim/thin, lightskined, trimmed, shapy, and able bodied are the best and only type of body that is desired, and in other words, other types of bodies such as plumpy, fat or short are inferior. In addition, diets, skin care and beauty products are targeted at women to help them achieve their desired dream body. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.
Sometimes ago I was at a cosmetics store trying to get a new body cream when I noticed one woman who was at the store to market her organic skin care product to the ladies in the store. I observed that she was marketing the products to some ladies and she was intentionally not speaking to some. On the long run, I got to realize that she was targeting only the lightskined ladies and not paying attention to the dark-skinned. This shows the reason why so many people go to the extent of using bleaching skincare products because they do not appreciate having a dark skin. Not until few years ago, most soaps and cream companies use only lightskined girls to advertise their products on the TV and social media
Year after year a huge amount of money is spent on marketing products that make people dislike their body from beauty products to fitness/diets products that encourage them to take up a new body color or shape. Meanwhile a lot of them are being deceitful and only playing on the intelligence of the public. For instance, a reality TV star, who was lightskined before she got to a popular reality TV show in Nigeria was endorsed as one of the Ambassadors of skincare company and she was made to make contents to make the public believe that she has been using the company's products for years, which is absolutely untrue.
In the same vein, eating behaviors are also greatly affected all thanks to the scenes we see in movies, advertisements and so on where people with big body sizes go through series of fitness routines which seems more like torture only to lose weight. Apart from that, having friends or family members who have also adopted the idea of not eating too much or paying to much attention to being slim or lightskined can also affect one's choice.
The use of social media have also put so many young people at the risk of not loving their body due to the much acclaimed dream bodies of celebrities that are being potrayed on the social media with flat tummy, hourglass shape, light skin and so on. Seeing these images and videos often can affect the way a person see themselves. There are people who see themselves as less of a human being because they do not have the type of body they see on social media.
While it is totally impossible to get rid of the influence of the impact of Television, Social media and technology as a whole but it is important to let people know that there is no crime in being big or slim, dark-skinned or light-skinned.
