Some of my recent art sales on MakersPlace were made by credit card instead of ETH, and this remarkable windfall was used to buy new tunes (for my pirate radio podcast), a number of postcards from Redbubble (many by independent artists doing their thing there), and some new DRAWING BOOKS for my granddaughter and I to sharpen our skills with (purchased from Powell's Books, a giant bookstore in Portland, Oregon!) Here are the new art books!!!
Starting top row left:
Draw With the Cartoon Dude! (2011) by Dave Miller
Doodle Drawing - Imagine, Explore, Create (2015) by Sarah Skeate
Draw Out the Story: The Secrets to Creating Your Own Comics (2013) by Brian McLachlan
Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals (Originally published 1970) by Ed Emberley
and
Ed Emberley's Drawing Book Make a World (Originally published 1972) by Ed Emberley
I'm pretty excited by these books, and my plan is to make copies of some of the pages of each for the little kid to color on, until she gets old enough to actually appreciate the books for what the are (and READ them), then I'll probably send them home with her (if she's still interested. I'm not the kind of grandpa that's gonna force a little kid to do something she doesn't want to do!)
Besides all of that, I'm also excited by the opportunity to learn other artists' perspectives and knowledge! Especially Ed Emberley, who was a genius at creating minimalistic cartoon figures with just a few lines that still manage to be evocative and entertaining! (I have a few other books by him in the garage, of course!)
So, if you ever wondered what a freako artist / writer guy spends his dough on, it's music and art and books....and milkshakes.... (Just sayin'!!!)
Later!
