Radio Illuminatus!!! (Fantasy radio show and chatter from the DJ - 28 Mar. 2021) by Richard F. Yates (AKA: DJ Carpetdweller... it's been MANY years since I've heard that name...but I don't seem to remember owning any droids?)
New room!!! (I like starting over!)
https://turntable.fm/radio_illuminatus
The room description:
"FREE PLAY. Seduce us with your tunes!!! No genre or time frame restrictions, but BE NICE or you'll be booted!"
---Bleu - "Wicked"
Took me a while to get the program to work again. I had a visit from my granddaughter, Felicity, while I was playing turntable.fm yesterday (spinning some tunes in a pop-up POST-PUNK room), and the little kid comes over, just as I start "Genetically Stupid" by The Jetsons, and she starts hitting buttons on the laptop's keyboard. (She's not quite two years old yet.) My sound went dead. I have no idea what she pushed, but it took me until about ten minutes ago to get it working again! Ha!!! (A normal person probably would have sorted it instantly, but I'm computer-challenged...)
---The B-52's - "52 Girls"
---Executive Slacks - "Fire & Ice"
I would have wanted to have three DJ seats in this room, but because of the Illuminatus reference, I feel like the rule of FIVE was more fitting, so now we've got 5 DJ seat open. There is a high likelihood that only ONE will ever get used... But that's okay...
---The Neon Judgement - "Tomorrow in the Papers"
---Passions - "Emergency"
Been lucky lately in finding some odd "ARTZ" out there in the "WORLD." I saw this on the ground in a parking lot while picking up dinner on Friday:
These painted rocks were at the local art supply store (on a "Take a Rock / Leave a Rock" table):
And this chalk art was out in front of my older daughter's house! (I'm pretty sure that she drew it, as she told me that it was supposed to be Totoro...)
---The Fall - "Psykick Dance Hall"
---The Human League - "Circus of Death"
---Melt - "Be Liquid"
I would love to have an actual, for real, broadcast over the airwaves radio station that just played music 24 hours a day, but since I'm not a bazillionaire, I'll never be able to afford to buy a real station. I'm also too pretty for jail, so I'm not going to try a PIRATE low power station---as much as I've always dreamed of doing that. Instead, I just get little moments of DJ-THRILL by playing tunes in this little game. It's not exactly DJing if there's no audience, but if I had a little half-watt station, I doubt that anyone would be able to hear me (broadcasting from this little valley that I live in) anyway---anyone but the FCC, anyway. So, this is pretty good.
I have a strategy, as well. Over time, as I build up my "score" on TT.FM, and get a few more "FANS," then maybe there will be a few folks who want to do those little pop up rooms, where somebody says, "Let's play new wave" (or something), and away we go. If I have a computer that I could run 24/7 (maybe I could make a little Raspberry Pi), I could EASILY clomp together a couple days worth of tunes and let it spin for folks who want to have weird music spinning in the background! It wouldn't be RADIO, but it would be a constant stream of music for folks to listen to!!! Neat! I don't know about you, but I get bored hearing the same damn thing whenever you turn on the radio or a music video station... That's not what you get from me... (And Dr. Demento...and other folks out there with a sense of humor and a love of weirdo music!)
---Public Image Ltd. - "Fodderstompf"
As far as plans go---as DESTINIES go---it's not exactly taking over the world, just playing some tunes!
---Steve Martin - "Grandmother's Song"
---Kirsty MacColl - "There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop, Swears He's Elvis"
---Nouvelle Vague - "Just Can't Get Enough"
You know, the whole time I'm sitting here thinking up tunes to play and listening to stuff, I could be drawing or writing a story or working on promotion... Instead, I'm just chilling... I'm enjoying myself. I think the importance of just having fun is overlooked far too often...
Another interesting thing, I had a few people in one of my rooms a few days ago, and it was actually sort of stressful. Suddenly, I had an audience, and I didn't know if they were enjoying the music or not. (I shouldn't care... Or SHOULD I care? I DID care, and without feedback, I didn't know if I was annoying them or if they had me muted or what. It was very strange...) How funny. When I'm alone and playing music to myself, it's fun and there's no stress, but I always wish there were folks around to share the experience with... But when people show up, I suddenly get a little freaked out, the stress levels go up, and it's almost not that fun anymore... UNLESS the people don't mind jumping up and playing tunes, too! That's fun. Then it becomes a music conversation...
---Meco - "Theme from Close Encounters"
---Logan's Sanctuary - "Metropia"
Here's a note of possible interest: I have discovered that, if you come to a room even when nobody is in it, you can still hear the songs that HAD BEEN PLAYED in the room!!! You click on the button that says, "ROOM" in the upper right, then push the "Recently Played Songs" drop-down button, and a chunk of the tunes that were most recently played will show up, and you can click just to the right of the name of the song (on the image) and it will play the tune! Neat!
---Joe Machine - "Follow the Rainbow"
Mmmmmmmm... Junior Mints! Mariah grabbed a box of that particular candy for me while she was at the grocery store!
So...that's it! I've rambled and prambled and brambled enough. Thanks for stopping by!!!
