PUNKTRONIC DISCO DIRGE is more than just my faux-radio show (although it certainly IS that.) It's also my MANIFESTO!!! I'm attempting to blend genres, promote indie and oddball artists with popular and more famous fare. I'm working to make the world a happier place by sharing some of my favorite works of art. (Some of the "tunes" that I play can only DEBATEABLY be called "music.") And I'm making a unique piece of art (in my own non-style style) for each episode.
I still firmly believe that the ARTS, the things we do because we LOVE THEM (like making music or dancing or painting or whatever) are our best expressions of ourselves. What does that have to do with playing techno or punk music? EVERYTHING! Give these songs a chance. Let the idiosyncrasies and feelings of the artists who make these works wash over you! If you hate the experience, ask yourself why? What bothered me? What didn't I get? If you're totally lost, send ME a note about the piece, and I'll try to give my perspective. (It might not be anything more than that I think something is funny, but even that is SOMETHING!)
If, however, you find yourself ENJOYING some of these tunes, then for goodness sake, buy a copy! Get yourself a $50 record player and a handful of 45 rpm 7" singles and just sit and listen! If you're not into that, then drop a few dollars on Bandcamp for an artist who will really appreciate that someone cared!
Most artwork, in my experience, is an attempt to connect, in some way, with another being. Some connect through powerful vocals, some through fuzzy guitars, and some through danceable rhythms... However they're trying to connect, you might be able to FEEL it in their music (or art or film or dance... I'm focusing on music and audio art in this space, but each form can be an equally valid attempt at making contact!)
