Today I wanted to share with you one of the first k-dramas I watched. It's one of those series that I will always be very fond of, no matter how much time has passed since I finished it, because it reminds me of that mini-me who was just starting to get interested in Korean dramas and watched everything with fascination.
When I realize how much time has passed from that moment until now, it fills me with joy to see how popular they have become and how more and more people recognize and enjoy them. If I were to ask myself why k-dramas are so popular, I could give a thousand answers, but if I go back to the origin, the first thing that fascinated me was the very different culture they showed.
For someone who lives in Latin America, all the cultural richness they reflect in their series was simply incredible. It made me realize that the world was much bigger than I had imagined, and that I still had a lot to learn. Something that definitely sets Koreans apart is how they leave a piece of their culture in everything they do.
I could go on listing a lot of reasons why I consider K-dramas to be so popular: their music, their unique way of storytelling, the visual aesthetics, and more. But I'll leave that for another post 😌. So, without further ado, I'll leave you with my take on What's Wrong with Secretary Kim.
🎬 Synopsis:
What's Wrong with Secretary Kim is a 2018 romantic k-drama (already a little bit old!) with a touch of comedy, which follows the story of Lee Young-joon, a successful and absolutely narcissistic young vice president. His perfect world starts to falter when Kim Mi-so, his impeccable trusted secretary for 9 years, announces to him that she is resigning. 😱
Young-joon can't understand why anyone would want to leave him and starts hatching different plans to retain her, as for him there is no one else capable of doing his job like Mi-so.
What starts as a simple negotiation turns into an unexpected story of love, self-discovery and secrets from the past. 💼💕
💭 My opinion:
I really love love stories in the office. It may sound very cliché, but they fascinate me! And this one has everything to be my kind of comfort series.
Although it may seem like a simple romance at first, it has elements that take you by surprise and make you fit each piece as the story progresses. Mind you: if you're looking for a fast-paced, steamy romance, you probably won't find it here. It has a leisurely pace, but just that makes you enjoy every moment with more emotion. 💖
I also have to highlight the secondary characters. They give a special touch to the story, with super funny moments and curious personalities that make everything much more entertaining.
And if you're still not convinced to watch it. Secretary Kim is played by Park Min-young! She never disappoints. All of her performances are amazing, and so far I haven't seen one that I didn't like.

Hoy quería compartir con ustedes uno de los primeros k-dramas que vi. Es de esas series a las que siempre les tendré mucho cariño, sin importar cuánto tiempo haya pasado desde que la terminé, porque me recuerda a esa mini-yo que apenas comenzaba a interesarse por los dramas coreanos y miraba todo con fascinación.
Cuando me doy cuenta del tiempo que ha pasado desde ese momento hasta ahora, me llena de alegría ver lo populares que se han vuelto y cómo cada vez más personas los reconocen y disfrutan. Si me preguntara por qué los k-dramas son tan populares, podría dar mil respuestas, pero si vuelvo al origen, lo primero que me fascinó fue la cultura tan diferente que mostraban.
Para alguien que vive en Latinoamérica, toda la riqueza cultural que reflejan en sus series era simplemente increíble. Me hizo entender que el mundo era muchísimo más grande de lo que había imaginado, y que me faltaba muchísimo por aprender. Algo que definitivamente diferencia a los coreanos es cómo dejan un pedacito de su cultura plasmado en todo lo que hacen.
Podría seguir enumerando un montón de razones por las que considero que los k-dramas son tan populares: su música, su manera única de contar historias, la estética visual, y más. Pero eso lo dejaré para otro post 😌. Así que, sin más preámbulos, les dejo mi opinión sobre What's Wrong with Secretary Kim.
🎬 Sinopsis:
What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim es un k-drama romántico de 2018 (¡ya un poquito antiguo!) con un toque de comedia, que sigue la historia de Lee Young-joon, un joven vicepresidente exitoso y absolutamente narcisista. Su mundo perfecto comienza a tambalearse cuando Kim Mi-so, su impecable secretaria de confianza durante 9 años, le anuncia que va a renunciar. 😱
Young-joon no puede entender por qué alguien querría dejarlo y empieza a trazar distintos planes para retenerla, ya que para él no existe nadie más capaz de hacer su trabajo como Mi-so.
Lo que comienza como una simple negociación se convierte en una historia inesperada de amor, autodescubrimiento y secretos del pasado. 💼💕
💭 Mi opinión:
Realmente me encantan las historias de amor en la oficina. Puede sonar muy cliché, ¡pero a mí me fascinan! Y esta tiene todo para ser mi tipo de comfort series.
Aunque al principio puede parecer un romance sencillo, tiene elementos que te toman por sorpresa y hacen que encajes cada pieza conforme avanza la historia. Eso sí: si buscas un romance rápido y apasionado, probablemente no lo encuentres aquí. Tiene un ritmo pausado, pero justo eso hace que disfrutes cada momento con más emoción. 💖
También tengo que destacar a los personajes secundarios. Le dan un toque especial a la historia, con momentos súper chistosos y personalidades curiosas que hacen todo mucho más entretenido.
Y si aún no te convences de verla, la Secretaria Kim es interpretada por Park Min-young, ella nunca defrauda. Todas sus actuaciones son increíbles, y hasta ahora no he visto ninguna que no me haya gustado.
