Hive is a decentralized social media application hosted on the Hive blockchain.
The Hive Social Media Platform functions very much like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Reddit all combined into one social media website. There is a big variety of content, including written, visual, photographic, video, painting, drawing, woodwork, sculture and gardening.
All are posted for your enjoyment, according to your interests and taste. The content creators share content with both an audience and their peers, so they enjoy both peer to peer and fan to creator interaction. But most importantly they control and own their content. Plus their accounts cannot be destroyed and are censorshiop resistent. Lastly, the content creators can make some money, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot it depends on your talent for creating content and your talent for cultivating a following. Just like life talent alone doesn't guarantee success in the real world, it doesn’t guarantee success in the virtual world.
Both the content creators and the people who read the articles, admire the photographs, enjoy the videos or other content posted on the platform can earn rewards, and they are monetary rewards in the form of a digital currency called Hive. This currency is tradeable on exchanges for other digital currencies including Bitcoin, and Bitcoin and the other currencies can be traded for US Dollars, Euros or other currencies, so your Hive earnings can be excghanged for regular currency.
Hive is a Cryptocurrency just like Bitcoin/Ethereum when it comes to having it's very own Blockchain or Distributed Ledger, making this Virtual token Transferrable, Fungible & a Freely moveable Asset. Hive can also be compared to Bitcoin, when it comes to being a permission less blockchain ledger, where no one has direct control over the Network meaning that tokens are Governed by Code and not some Individual, Corporation, Government or Bank. You have a Decentralized Network which is hosted by talented people called Witnesses who run the blockchain code computers all over the world which maintain the integrity and security of the platform and digital currency in multiple locations, making it resistent to attack and censorship. It is also supported by a community of hundreds of thousands of usersaround the world (1.2 million by one count) & supported by it's Users around the world, whose goal is to strengthen the security of its Digital Currency.
Hive the digital currency is tradeable on popular Exchanges like Poloniex, Bittrex, Binance, Huonobi and until recently Polonex. Hive tokens are part of a permissionless ledger made accessible to the general public, making it a free tradeable Currency with little to no restriction where the end-user or parties decide on the final price and choose the preferred platform to facilitate this trade
The Hive blockchain is built using the relatively new Graphene Blockchain software construct, which is also used by projects like Steemit, Bitshares & PeerPlays. All three use this cutting edge technology to power their infrastructure. While Bitcoin tends to be slow when comes to being a Medium of Exchange and charges it's users transaction fees, Hive on the other hand is Free of charge and Executes Blockchain transaction almost Instantly. Hive has No Transaction Fees & almost Instant transactions.
The idea behind Hive was it was meant to be a Decentralized Social Media that rewards users Hive for their Contribution. This is based on the idea that Financial Value can be found & derived from Social Interactions. Hive code is derived from the code for the Steem blockchain and Steemit platform, but people in the Steemit community left to form their own community on another blockchain called Hive. It is a new community, but the community members and computer code developers have many years experience working on or being part of the Steem Community. They left to build something different and their goal is to build something better.

Shortsegments is a blogger or writer on social media application or platforms, some of which are running on blockchains. A decentralized application or a decentralized platform, means there isn’t a central authority or owner to take your account away from you and your account can’t be deleted. You are the owner of your account and these platforms are censorship resistant. In contrast, centralized platforms have a central authority or owner who can freeze your account, hide your content and delete your account and all your content. Examples of centralized platforms include Facebook, Instagram or YouTube.
