I am the only child of my parents and the only child of my mother. Which means my father has other children.
I never knew my father, basically because he left even before i could understand good from bad. I was never a normal kid. At a young age, i already knew how to mask my emotions and never display weakness. My mother has always been my hero. We left our home town penniless and nineteen years later, I am in my third year in university all because one woman refused to break.
At age thirteen, i was told i had the mind of a twenty year old because i understood and did things no thirteen year old would. However, i tried to be different, i tried to blend in and behave like my peers because i hated being called different. That only got me ten feet deep in depression and i began making bad decisions that honestly, shaped my life today.
I have always looked up to my mother because, she was the pillar and even with my rebellious attitude, she never stopped loving, caring, sharing and hoping I'd change and become better. She was always at my side when no one else was.
As i aged and understood more about life, paying for my mistakes and making up for them, i understood that Life is worth living, no matter how many times you fall, you can still get back up.
I have come very far and in the long run, i have dropped many bad habits– addictions– and inculcated good ones. I've also worked very hard on my self, swallowing bitter truths about myself and worked to change them. The hard work paid off because now, i don't even ask for it but some people (very few), look me in the eye and say, you're the kind of person i want to be like.
My mom never stops singing my praise and saying how proud she is of me and i always try my possible best not to put tears in her eyes. I always love it when she smiles.
I had a whole bag of self esteem issues while growing up but, they're all gone now.
I love myself, in every sense of the word. I work hard so that i can feel better about who i am. I do the right things for peace of mind and if you ask me to turn back time, I wouldn't change one thing about me because those experiences helped me grow. They made me who i am. Bold and Beautiful!
I invite @martharex to participate in this contest.
