In my country, Indonesia, especially in some remote villages, there is a proverb that says "Women are only in the kitchen, at the well and in bed" maybe this proverb also applies in some countries with the same beliefs and cultures.
This proverb more or less explains that the role of a woman is limited to being a housewife who is tasked with serving her husband in all aspects of his needs.
This proverb may be acceptable in the village environment because, for some women, household tasks such as cooking, washing and taking care of children are the duties of a mother while a man's duty is to earn money by working or doing business to help women run their household smoothly.
However, in urban areas where the majority of residents are academics, the proverb above seems to limit women's movements. Moreover, for some women who have an ideology of gender equality, it is certain that the proverb above is very misogynistic.
In my personal opinion, this is just my idea, I think that indeed in certain situations and conditions the role of women is very much needed, whether as a teacher, or as a businessman, or as a minister and so on.
This means that not all women have the ability and readiness to play a role in a particular field. On the other hand, in some urban environments, many husband and wife couples have careers in business, but forget to provide psychological and spiritual needs for their children.
As a result, many children are neglected and in the wrong company. Maybe the child's financial needs are met but their mental, moral and spiritual needs are greatly neglected.
Maybe some people ask "what about the duties of a housekeeper and babysitter?"
My answer is "the affection of a housekeeper will not exceed the affection of both parents"
If there are female friends in this community who ask "Do I agree with misogynism or patriarchy?" Of course my answer is I strongly disagree.
Thank you for reading my first post. I hope we can share ideas to empower women in a better direction.
