Being an adult is a full time job and the fact that there are no manuals makes it even more tasking. When we were little, a lot of us wanted to grow up so fast thinking we’d be free to do whatever we wanted without any restrictions. We wanted to know what it feels like not being told what to do or ordered around.
However, growing up and having the same freedom we all wanted, we found out it is not entirely a bed of roses. We found out we have little or no time to ourselves coupled with the mood swings, pressure and emotional breakdown that comes with adulthood.
In the long run we become frustrated and emotionally down realizing so much is expected of us and we may be unable to meet all the expectations.
Inner peace despite a busy life and daily struggles is very necessary albeit difficult. It requires a deliberate and consistent practice of mindfulness. It gets tiring sometimes but if you prioritize peace, then you would do anything to achieve it.
I have few tips that work for me and they are;
Rest: Inasmuch as money must be made and despite my busy schedule, I squeeze in a little time to have a proper rest. During this period, I put my phone and DND to avoid any interruptions. The essence of rest cannot be over emphasized. Not only does it clear your mind, it also gives you a relaxed and more enhanced body
Live within your means: There’s nothing that kills joy more than comparison and greediness. You don't have to compare your life with others. You only have to work hard to be better than you were years ago. Comparison makes you feel you are not doing enough and in the long run, depression might set in.
Music and Meditation: Nothing clears your mind like a good song and a little bit of meditation. The right music has calming effects on you and meditation? It gives you time to soberly reflect on your life.
Read: Nothing enlightens you as much as a good book. Read!, you do not have a reason not to. Books sharpen your mind and give you wholesome thoughts. You don’t necessarily need to read too many books, you just need to always read the right ones. If you're busy, you could do ebooks or audiobooks, your mind will thank you for it.
Drink water and mind your business: Yeah, water has loads of health benefits and minding your business helps you stay out of other people's business, ensuring you have few things to think or worry about.
Bonus: Have fun, visit your loved ones, try to be better each day.
Remember, the key to achieving inner peace is to be consistent in your mindfulness practice and to make it a non-negotiable part of your daily routine. Be consistent, you’ll be glad you were.
Live healthy and have fun while at it!
