If you could instantly master one skil and forget one you already know, what would you choose? That's the prompt I have to write on.
If I could instantly master one skill, it would be oratory; the art of speaking with power, clarity, and impact. Oratorical skill isn’t just about talking well; it’s about commanding a room with your words, touching hearts, inspiring minds, and moving people to action. I would give anything to have it.
Currently, I work as a fashion designer. I love what I do, but not in the same way I long for the gift of speech. I stepped into fashion design to keep myself busy and to earn a living. The passion I have for it is one I’ve had to develop- something cultivated by necessity rather than born from deep desire. I give my best in it, and with time, I've made a name for myself. But the fire that fuels my love for oratory is different. It’s innate. It burns from within.
I’m someone who values respect deeply. And I’ve observed how eloquent speakers often carry an air of dignity and command. Their words give them presence, even before they enter a room, their voices are already there. That kind of influence appeals to me. Oratory not only earns respect; it elevates your identity. It gives you a platform and a voice in a noisy world especially when your messages are intelligent, wise, and soul-stirring.
For someone like me, who seem to be invisible in gatherings, who sits quietly in a corner observing more than speaking, oratory would be a way to step into the light. I often imagine being in a room where I’m barely noticed. People see me, but they don’t 'see' me. Then, suddenly, they hear my name called to give a speech. I rise, an unassuming figure and walk to the front. And as I begin to speak with clarity, purpose, and depth, I watch their expressions shift from indifference to awe. That kind of moment would be unforgettable. The respect earned in such a transformation would be tremendous.
Beyond recognition, oratorical skill opens doors. It allows you to lead, teach, advocate, and inspire. It builds confidence, sharpens your thinking, and connects you with others on a deeper level. It can turn ideas into movements, silence into action, and ordinary people into unforgettable voices.
Yes, I love my current work. But the desire to truely speak lives deeper. If I could master any skill in an instant, it wouldn’t be stitching garments or creating designs. It would be the ability to move people with my words. That, to me, it's a skill that is so valuable, I'd trade anything to have it.
