Hello friends of this community; I think this is a topic that many people suffer with, that many people are going to identify with, to begin with, it is possible that you who are listening to me are a procrastinator, if you are a person who leaves tasks for later, you postpone them until the last minute or maybe you just push them and never do what you need to do.

Procrastination is that habit of postponing tasks, of postponing important obligations, it is an avoidance strategy, record this in your head, procrastination is nothing more than an avoidance strategy; avoid what exactly?

Nowadays people talk a lot about productivity, all this has a lot to do with our generation with this need to be more productive and to start I want you to understand a little how procrastination works in your brain and what the motivation behind it is.

Our brain is naturally inclined to seek momentary and immediate rewards and pleasures, but when we face challenging, more monotonous tasks that do not generate this immediate gratification, our reward system becomes unbalanced and this can lead us to postpone a task to look for more pleasant activities, it is like when you have to get up to exercise and you press the snooze button on your cell phone to have 10 more minutes of rest and thus you continue procrastinating until you no longer have time to do it, because you need to go out to work.

So there are several things that we look for, avoid, it is one of the most common, there are mainly three, the main thing we look for is to avoid and that is why we procrastinate, it is the fear of failure, when we are afraid of not being able to succeed in a task when we feel insecure to perform it, when we are afraid of how our performance will be, it is very possible that we procrastinate and postpone that task because we do not want to fail, because we do not want to show people that we do not do that well.

An example that I have mentioned is the fear I had with social anxiety and the fact of going out alone, going on public transport, etc. and how I procrastinated that for a long time, I ignored it and used Uber because I didn't want to deal with it, I wanted to avoid that fear, because I was insecure, I was afraid that something would go wrong or that I would feel bad or that something would happen so many times we procrastinate certain tasks, certain goals, invitations, things that we would like to do in our career, maybe you would like to promote your work on social networks, such Maybe you would like to start a new project, undertake but you keep procrastinating because you are afraid of failure because you feel insecure.

So it is important to understand what is behind it, if there is something in your life that procrastinates a lot, if you always see yourself procrastinating that, you need to ask yourself what is behind this procrastination, could it be that I am afraid of failing, could it be that I am feeling insecure and if that is the case, fear of driving, for example, security develops as we face our fears and address them.

The more we avoid the more insecure we will feel so in this case the strategy is really to face the fear and you may not be a great driver at first and you may make some mistakes but you will gain confidence as you expose yourself to that situation and this is the first reason why people tend to procrastinate.

The second very important factor is perfectionism, it is common for people who procrastinate a lot to do so due to perfectionism, which is a need for everything to be perfect and this is a great obstacle to starting something, because first it is impossible for everything to be perfect and second, I include myself in this and it is so exhausting to do it perfectly that you already become overwhelmed by the pressure, so then you end up avoiding and end up procrastinating.

This is very common at work, in the study, perfectionist people tend to procrastinate until the last minute and in the end it will not be perfect, not at the last minute, not even if you had done it in advance, but what is true is that you will avoid a lot of stress if you did not leave it until the last minute.

Then you need to analyze yourself, you need to reflect and observe if this perfectionism exists and also question the reason for this, where did you learn that everything had to be perfect, I like to think that instead of looking for perfection I should look for excellence and doing things with excellence does not mean that they will be perfect.

Excellence is doing the best you can with the resources you have with the time you have, it is understanding that certain activities do not require such a high level of dedication or perfectionism, they simply need to be done and that's it.

The third thing that may be behind this procrastination, which for me is the one that clicked in my head, is the lack of motivation or interest. Sometimes we confuse this with laziness, but in reality it may simply not be something interesting or that you do not feel that motivated, you may not see yourself with a strong enough motive to do it and when this clear motivation does not exist, procrastination can manifest itself as a certain laziness to do that.

Then it is also true that you begin to live at the mercy of a certain motivation and that is also dangerous, because there are things that we need to do regardless of whether we have motivation or not and we must understand that, in adult life, adult life that is full of things, it can be exercising, it can be a job that you have to hand in, things that you have to do at university, but you have to do it regardless of the motivation.

Understand that procrastination as an avoidance strategy is not going to work because in the end what you lack is simply a little more self-control, a little more discipline and you can only achieve this by developing more maturity. I would like you to reflect a little on this, on what is happening and what is behind this procrastination. Essentially you have to understand why you are not doing those things and treat that cause.
