Nowadays, some parents pass on to their kids the family responsibility after they graduate from school. As a parent, do you agree with this, or will you allow your kids to shoulder burdens that are not supposed to be theirs? As a child, is it necessary for you to pay back your parents' laborious efforts even though it means you have to sacrifice your freedom?
There is a saying that "If you want children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders".
I think most parents misinterpret this statement thereby transferring their own responsibilities onto their child(ren).
Right from the moment a child is born, the parent must ensure that the child is well taken care of and it might be a bit understandable that the parents would expect the child to reciprocate after he /she finishes school and probably get a good job. Especially when the child happens to be the first son or first daughter. I think it's safe to say that if most families decide to make decisions based on how it will affect their children, then life will be a better place.
Let's start with parents that know they are not financially buoyant to take care of many children yet they keep giving birth to more children and the older ones get to start taking care of responsibilities when they have just
started learning ways to survive themselves.
Most of these children would have gone a long way if they are not being dragged back by the responsibilities meant to be taken care of by their parents. Don't get me wrong, I am not against giving birth to as many children as you want or saying that children shouldn't help their families. What I am saying is that why should a child who is trying to find his or her way in the world be held back by things that should have been the parent's duty?
I know it's not easy for parents toiling day and night to take care of their children but that doesn't mean the child(ren) shouldn't be allowed to breathe. Some parents even go as far as emotionally blackmailing their children when they feel he/she is not bringing enough money which in turn makes these children resort to different sources of income just to keep up. When will these children plan their own life? When will they be their person when they have loads of responsibilities they shoulder before even getting married which is why some ladies go into marriages they do not want.
Parents can do better, while it is true that you want to "reap the fruits of your labor", it shouldn't cause problems for the children. It shouldn't be to the detriment of your child's survival. Children should be allowed to leave their own life free from the heavy weight of responsibilities. Some parents even expect their children to start taking care of responsibilities even before they graduate from school. This pressure is part of the reason why some children are pushed into illegal means of getting money.
As a child, I want nothing more than to give my parents the best care even without being asked but I think it should mean that I am a bit okay in most aspects. I should be able to take care of at least my own basic needs.
I think it has to do with a little bit of planning, parents should support their children and make sure they attain the height they plan for themselves, that way the children will go all out in ensuring that their parents are well catered for.
