QUESTION:
How do you recover from emotional pain or grief?
ANSWER:
One of the hardest things to do in life is to find your way after getting lost... not in the literal sense, though in one way or another, that could be hard too.
When we fail at something... when we lose someone we love... when things don't go the way we want them to be, the feeling of being lost and not knowing what to do emerges.
These situations are inevitable, and we all experience them at some point in life, not just once, but multiple times. Do we simply just get used to it? I don't think so.
It's never easy to find our way... It's not easy to recover from losing someone we hold dear... success is never easy, either. There will always be risks to take and sacrifices to make.
I can't speak for everyone, and we all have our own ways of coping, but one thing is for certain... everything is temporary, and what you're experiencing at the moment will pass.
When I learned the concept of the stages of grief, things became much clearer. I know it's not always the case, and the process for each individual may be different, but eventually, we'll get to the final stage, which is acceptance.
In my case, I just try to remember this concept. I allow myself to experience every stage... I give myself time to deny what's happening... to get angry at the situation... to bargain and wish that everything would go back the way it was... I allow myself to be depressed... and acknowledge that what I'm experiencing is real until I arrive at the point of acceptance.
Even grief is a journey!
Before I end this post, allow me to share a poem I made a while ago.
Memories Beyond the Shadows
In unseen depths, quiet sadness lies
Unbearable pain and heartache are inevitable
Gushes of negative emotions, at times, unstoppable
But when there's darkness, there will be light
Let's not give in without putting up a fight
It won't be easy, not in any way nice
Success won't be achieved without a sacrifice
Denying reality and escaping are temporary
Unsolicited anger; normal, but is it necessary?
Longing for days as they used to exist
Don't you think it's the present that you'll miss?
Sure, we may find comfort in the shadows
But listen as your heart’s echoed scream grows
Gradually, we’ll rise and learn to accept
Carrying the past, with hearts newly swept
