So many ladies believe:
If my flow isn’t heavy, I don’t need to change my pad all day.”
But let’s ask, Is that safe? Is that hygienic? Is that healthy?
Let’s break it down 👇
❓How Long Should a Pad Be Worn?
Whether your period is light, moderate, or heavy, you should NOT wear a single pad for more than 4–6 hours at a time.
Yes, even if you don’t see much blood.
🛑 Why You Shouldn’t Wear One Pad All Day:
∆ Bacteria Buildup:
Blood is a fluid rich in nutrients which makes it a breeding ground for bacteria.
The longer it stays on the pad and close to your body, the more bacteria multiply.
∆ Risk of Infection:
Wearing a pad for too long can cause:
Vaginal itching or foul smell
Rashes and skin irritation
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Yeast infections
In rare cases, Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) a life threatening condition
∆ Odour and Discomfort:
The longer a pad stays, the stronger the odor becomes even with light flow.
✅ The Right Way to Use Your Pad (Whether Light or Heavy Flow):
Change your pad every 4 to 6 hours maximum
On heavy flow days, you might need to change every 2 to 3 hours
Always wash your hands before and after changing your pad
Clean your vaginal area with clean water and a gentle cloth (no antiseptics inside)
Dispose of used pads properly never flush them in toilets
Never wear a pad to sleep if you have worn it all day. Always change before bed.
💬 But What If I Don’t Have Heavy Flow?
Even light blood carries bacteria.
Even small amounts can irritate your skin.
Even if you feel clean, you are not actually safe from infection.
So, this rule still applies:
4–6 hours max per pad.
💡 Menstrual hygiene is not just about staying dry, it’s about protecting your health.
So let’s leave the myths behind.
It’s not “wasteful” to change pads. It’s wise.
It’s not “being too clean.” It’s being safe.
🩸 Dear lady, protect your body. Respect your cycle. Change your pad.
