"My Hobbies Are Temporary, but My Impulse to Start New Ones Is Eternal"
Some people collect stamps.
I collect hobbies I got obsessed with for two weeks and never touched again.
It starts the same every time:
I see a post. A reel. A TikTok. A smiling girl painting sunflowers or crocheting under fairy lights with peaceful music playing in the background.
Next thing you know, I’m in a Shopee checkout with 12 items and a dream.
Let me take you through my chaotic, colorful, absolutely random journey of hobby-hopping like it’s my full-time job:
🎨 1. Painting
I bought brushes, canvases, acrylic paint in 24 colors — because 12 just wasn’t enough. Adding melted glue sticks on the painting to make it more artistic and realistic. But realistically speaking thats the end of it. 😅
🪴 2. Indoor Plants
Pandemic happened. Everyone’s not allowed to go out. Indoor plant became a thing. “I’ll just plant one,” I said. Lie. Within a month, my room looked like a forest café. But one by one, the leaves yellowed… and so did my interest. Oops.
🥬 3. Vegetable Gardening
Why just water plants when you can eat them, right? I planted cabbage, tomatoes, sili — living my farm-to-table fantasy. I rejoiced at every sprout… then forgot to water for 3 days and everything went downhill. Next.
🧶 4. Crocheting
This one’s special because I actually made a swim wear. Yes. A whole crocheted swimwear. Did I wear it? NOPE. Did I flex it? NOPE. Did I crochet again after that? Absolutely nope.
🎀 5. Scrunchie Making
Saw a girl sewing scrunchies on TikTok and made a good business out of it. I blinked. Then boom — bought a sewing machine and lots of fabrics. Made like 4 scrunchies and gave them away and did some few upcycles. The sewing machine? Still under my bed, probably wondering what it did wrong.

🪡 6. Shirt Embroidery
It was Valentine’s Day. I was feeling crafty. I wanted to give something handmade to make it something special. Of course I made it couple-shirt coz its valentines. Hand cramps? Worth it. Continued after Valentine’s? Of course not.
👕 7. Hand-Drawn Shirt Design
One time, I HAND-DREW a design on a shirt as a birthday gift to my then-boyfriend (now husband). Iconic behavior. Romantic. One-of-a-kind. That shirt better be in a museum someday. 🤭🤭
🧼 8. Homemade Dishwashing Soap
I don’t know what possessed me, but I suddenly wanted to go full eco-queen and make my own dishwashing liquid. Mixed stuff in bowls like I was in a chemistry lab. It smelled nice, I think. Used it once. Never repeated.
🌸 9. Fuzzy Wire Flowers
This one? A proud moment. I made an ENTIRE bridal bouquet and boutonnière out of fuzzy wire. It was cute, colorful, and didn’t wilt. Pinterest would be jealous. Peak DIY queen era. Haven’t touched fuzzy wire since.
🖍️ 10. Adult Coloring Books
Bought two sets of highlighters and markers. Not one, TWO — because what if one set runs out mid-mandala? Colored obsessively for a few days like it was a competition. Even created tiktok page to share my coloring journey. Now those books live in my drawer, resting.
📱 11. iPad Coloring
I didn’t just stop at paper. No no — I leveled up. I bought an iPad just so I could digitally color without worrying about markers drying out. It was the ultimate upgrade. Im still on my first page. 😂😂 So this hobby should survive longer than the rest (maybe). I spent so much for this.
The pattern?
Buy stuff → Get obsessed → Stay up till 2AM “perfecting my craft” → Lose interest → Find a new obsession → Repeat.
And honestly? I love that for me.
Each hobby gave me a spark of joy, a funny memory, or at least one handmade item that’s either proudly displayed or hiding somewhere in my closet. I may not have stuck with all of them, but I showed up with creativity, passion, and an unexplainable need to DIY my entire life.
Will I pick up another random hobby next week? Probably.
Will I buy 10 new things for it? Obviously.
Will I regret it? Never.
Because life’s too short not to dive headfirst into a new obsession just because a stranger made it look cute online. Now, Im torn between reading books, coloring using markers, coloring on my ipad, watching movies, sleep, and my phone.
Shoutout to my very patient husband for supporting me through every weird little phase (and funding a few of them). You the real MVP. 🤭💸
Am I the only one like this? Or is this just girlhood in its truest form?
