My Submission:
"What is the meaning of this!" - Sergeant Major Halverson's raspy voice cut through the morning air the observation post.
Specialist Turner, the Sergeant Major's driver, was currently dancing, in his helmet, underwear and socks, on the hood of the Sergeant Major's Humvee.
Turner appeared to be trying brush something off his legs. As his eye's made contact with the Sergeant Major, Specialist Turner's hands went behind his back and he came to the position of parade rest.
"Turner, why are you are defiling my vehicle, and where are your pants" demanded Halverson, in absolute disbelief.
Specialist Turner sputtered, and finally got out "Scorpion in my underwear Sergeant Major!"
Staff Sergeant Michaels who had watched Specialist Turner dancing a jig, fished out his a knife and speared a scorpion, a plastic scorpion, that had been dislodged by Turner's convulsions. "Sergeant Major, I don't think this fellow is going to sting anyone" he said displaying the plastic scorpion to Halverson.
Specialist Turner looked at the plastic scorpion, and then back at Sergeant Major Halverson in confusion. "Turner get your ass off my Humvee, and get ready to roll out in 15-minutes," Halverson snapped at Turner and turned away in disgust.
"Yes Sergeant Major." Turner spat out as he jumped down, and began putting his pants on.
Staff Sergeant Michaels turned back to his squad and noticed, Sergeant Floyd, and unrepentant prankster avoiding his eyes and attempting to look anywhere else. "Sergeant Floyd take the men and find something useful to do, until the Sergeant Major is well away from here!"
Once the men and the Sergeant Major were well out of earshot, Michaels finally allowed himself to laugh. It felt good to laugh, and to forget where he was, even if only for a moment. **
