I'm still in my first week with my new Splinterlands account, "ChironCentaurus" and I just got myself promoted into the Bronze 1 rank.
So far, I haven't invested any cash or BTC on card purchases, but Chiron Centaurus is being supported by his alter ego @hirohurl who has donated a few SPS from liquidity pool and in-game daily earnings.
As of now, Chiron Centaurus has staked 18 SPS tokens, and now he's in the Bronze leagues, he's begun to earn fractions of SPS from successful battles:
The Importance of Glint for New Players
Also, Glint earnings are helping Chiron to recruit more (soulbound) monsters into his ranks. From this experience of building a new Splinterlands account from scratch without investing any outside funds, I now appreciate the importance of Glint in helping new players build their collections.
Epic Night Reaper Dragon Prize!
The Bronze 1 treasure chests did not contain any big prizes such as Chiron Centaurus won when he broke into Bronze 2. Hidden in one Bronze 2 tresure chest was the Epic Night Reaper Dragon:
Chiron Centaurus hasn't yet recruited a Dragon Summoner, so Night Reaper doesn't appear very often on the field of battle.
Chiron Joins a Guild
In the first few days, Chiron Centaurus fought only Modern battles, but with the elevation of @hirohurl to Index Guild Co-Leader, Chiron Centaurus received an invitation to join the guild, which is timely because there were a bunch of Merits in three of the treasure Bronze 1 treasure chests:
