El desarrollo del lenguaje en los niños comienza desde los primeros momentos de la vida. La forma en la que el adulto se comunica con ellos es sumamente importante en este proceso. Por eso, se les debe hablar claro, con sencillez, articulando bien las palabras y despacio, para que los pequeños puedan absorber cada una de ellas.

Cuando paseemos con ellos, debemos detenernos para que observen, pregunten y, en caso de que puedan, lleguen a tocar los que les llama la atención. Los niños siempre querrán saber; puede que te pregunten por lo que no conozcan. Debes responderle y no dejarlo con la duda, por eso, al pasear, hazlo lo menos aprisa posible. Al principio puede ser que algunos niños no pregunten y solo toquen. Esto puede ocurrir durante el primer año de vida. Cuando lo hagan, explícales brevemente la duda para que te entiendan y no les digas simplemente que no toquen. La curiosidad de los niños les hace hablar mucho y querer saber a medida que crecen. Si no aclaras sus dudas, puede suceder dos cosas: el niño inteligente busca sus propias respuestas, pero el niño más lento se queda con la duda toda la vida.
