Do you believe in evolution? The idea that animals and humans gradually evolved over millions of years from basic organisms into the advanced creatures they are today.
Evolution makes sense if you think about how the people who come from countries around the equator have darker skin, whereas those who evolved in the northern regions have lighter skin, due to less sun exposure.
Animals adapt to their habitat when it comes to defending themselves, hunting for food, and mating to procreate.
Those who manage to survive the harsh conditions of their environment evolve and pass their genes onto the next generation.
Remove an animal from its natural habitat where it evolved, and surviving becomes more difficult.
Fighting Evolution
We would not expect an animal that evolved in the ocean to thrive well on land, nor vice versa. Imagine trying to train a Cheetah to survive in the water, or moving a polar bear from the arctic to a tropical island.
Unlike animals though, humans are psychologically complex. In the modern age, we have been indoctrinated to believe that we can circumvent our natural evolution, and live in unnatural ways.
Unnatural Lifestyles
For example, we evolved over millions of years to eat natural fruits, vegetables, seeds, etc. It's only in recent decades that we've been encouraged to consume processed foods.
Also, we lived primarily outdoors as groups of hunters and gatherers throughout history. These days though, we spend most of our time indoors, interacting with other people through the screen of a computer or a smartphone.
Consider the mating dance between a man and a woman. This is something that evolved over millions of years through in-person interactions. In just the past two decades, social media has completely short-circuited this courting process.
Women who used to get attention and validation from only a few members of the tribe are now getting it from thousands (or millions) of men from all around the world, short-circuiting their biological wiring.
We evolved for hundreds of thousands of years in small tribes with strict rules, where we acknowledged that men and woman are different, and that each gender should have different roles in the community.
In the conscious mind, we may think we want things like processed foods, modern technology, and the elimination of traditional gender roles, but we cannot so easily override our biology.
Is it any wonder that we've been experiencing a mix of anxiety, depression, and loneliness in this modern era?
Until next time...
We have been conditioned from a young age to live in ways that aren't congruent with our biology, and this indoctrination seems to have gone into overdrive in the past decade.
Million of years of evolution will always override a few decades of social conditioning though, and if we don't align our lifestyles with our natural biology, we'll feel negative emotions.
If we want to feel at peace, we need to balance modern food and technology with natural living that aligns with our biology.
