Lately, I’ve been asking myself an important question: Can I take risks? and Do I even like taking risks? But before that, I kept wondering as is it really necessary to take risks? Or should we just search for safety and stability? These thoughts kept going through my mind, so I decided to sit with myself and try to find a solution to this topic.
The reason I started thinking about it is because many opportunities have come my way, but I usually avoid taking risks and honestly, in most cases, I end up feeling regretful for missing those chances.
After sitting with myself and reflecting, I realized that the first reason that holds me back from taking risks is the fear of failure or loss so this kind of fear makes you feel disappointed as if you failed, and it doesn’t give you the motivation to try anything new.
Also, for me personally, it's about my love for stability. I don’t like to change the situation I’m used to the routine and the safety I live in even if that situation might hurt me in the long run.
Maybe some of my past negative experiences also play a part in making me afraid to take risks. But I believe there are some ways that can help us overcome this fear and also make risk taking feel safer. That’s what I’ve been searching for, and eventually, I came to some helpful conclusions.
First, I found that the best thing is to start with small, calculated risks. These small steps can give you a push to take bigger ones later. They can actually help you grow and reach stability.
Another important thing is to change how we see risk. A risk is an opportunity. Everything in life can succeed or fail, so it’s better to take one step forward instead of standing still and doing nothing.
Finally, I believe the smartest way is to set limits for your risks, like having a stop-loss in trading. This gives you some peace of mind when stepping into something new. You already know your exit point before taking the risk. And by analyzing everything ahead of time, you become more aware of the situation when to start, and when to stop.
