I believe we are living through many psychological and physical difficulties that we suffer from. Some may say these are just temporary problems or crises, but we notice that they last for a long time without us feeling any change or improvement. As we try to understand how these struggles reflect on our lives, we find ourselves dealing with many challenges without being able to find any real solutions.
So, I sat down with myself to think: What is making life harder than before? Was life really that difficult in the past, or are things actually better now in our current era? I found that life has indeed become more difficult, mainly because of the increase in demands in today’s world. In the past, life had fewer requirements, which made it easier to manage and provide for.
What is special about the time we live in is the group of people who exist in this period. That means we are the ones affecting this time, and we are the ones who should be held responsible for damaging the Earth. The Earth has been here for millions of years, yet we’ve only lived for a century or less, and we are already causing so much harm to it.
To be fair, this time in history has become extremely difficult not necessarily because of people or climate changes but because of the rising demands of modern life. We now live in a very complicated period, filled with expectations and luxuries that we feel pressured to keep up with, so that we don’t appear to be less than others.
In the age of social media and advertising, we are living in a time where demands are constantly increasing, placing a heavy burden on people and keeping them under continuous pressure. That’s why I believe the real solution lies in returning to the basics the same foundations from which human life began and making sure those are well secured. Only after that should we move on to what we call luxuries as this approach is not just about saving money, but more importantly, it’s about protecting our mental well-being.
Therefore, the solution lies in going back to the basics of life, just like humans in the Stone Age: food, clothing, and water. We need to focus on providing the resources for these three basic needs first. After that, we can think about things like investment and saving. Lastly, luxuries in all their forms should come at the very end—as something we aim for only after the essentials are covered.
