I've listened to a lot of people in my life and have benefitted from hearing and understanding many of them. Listening is an excellent skill, one learns more listening than talking. I had an idea to do a little series of posts about things I've heard people say and which I've taken away, thought over and applied to my life. I'll keep these posts quite short but hope someone reads something they can fit into their own life. Here goes.
Don't tell, show
Everyone likes to feel they're perceived as relevant, worthy, intelligent, skilled, a good or valuable person, wanted and needed and other such things by others...but talking about them doesn't make it so.
Trying to convince people through words that you are what you want them to see and perceive isn't going to work; it takes action and effort, consistently so. Cease talking about what makes you a good person or skilled or valid and instead dedicate your effort and focus on being that and people will see for themselves through your actions and behaviours.
They say actions speak louder than words and in this case I completely agree, that's why someone came up with that saying in the first place. Do the right things consistently, work hard at it and without the need for a fanfare, and constantly seek to improve and people will see what they need to see without the need for you to tell them t - they'll believe what they see more readily than what you tell them to see.
