When I came back from Portugal, after tasting the fresh citrus at home, I decided I would try to grow some trees from the seeds of the tangerines I was eating. I'd never done such a thing before so I looked at some YouTube videos and started nurturing 6 seeds in a glass container, I took away their covering skin with care and kept them inside a wet cooking tissue to keep the moisture.
Yesterday, three weeks after keeping them there. It was about time to move them out of the container to seedbeds. Out of six, five of them managed to germinate. This was how they were looking.
I used a plastic seedbed, added some soil, and planted each one of them into one of the spots. Added some water and this is what I ended up with.
I'm still gonna keep them inside the house, probably in the basement as I want them to be in a cool area but not freeze outside. We do not get freezing winters here, but I do not want to forget to keep the humidity of the soil and would like to keep them away from birds when they start to come out.
I am sure it will take quite a few years for them to grow into trees like this one and produce some tasty fruits like the ones we harvested a few weeks ago to take home, but the growing process is what I will enjoy the most.
Today, I was thinking about the similarities between these seeds and the project we are starting right now. The first hurdle was losing one of the seeds. I was expecting some would fail and this is the reason I used six instead of one or two. We will also face failures while we launch our project. We will take care of it as I am with the seeds and in both cases, there are big chances we may end up with no tree or no business, but the journey is what I love the most in both cases. Facing challenges and figuring out how to solve them to keep growing is what makes us grow the same way I expect these seeds to grow into an adult tree.
