I live with red-hot emotions; in my soul and mind everything is felt with a level of intensity that is not usual or normal for most humans. Am I special or am I a mutant? No, not at all. I am simply a poet.
And like any poet I live seeing what people do not see, understanding what cannot be understood with the intellect, but with the heart. Expressing with effective but sonorous words what I feel and see as I feel and see it. I attend to reasons that are not seen with the physical eyes but with the eyes of the soul.
And in the midst of the frustration and despair that comes from knowing that I am misunderstood by the majority, I feel alone and overwhelmed. And I realize that I do not intend to hurt susceptibilities and that I respect everyone's freedom to express themselves, but what I do not understand and will never understand are the bad manners with which some people express themselves about others when they do not understand how they think or act.
I say this because when you feel so intensely about everything, anything unpleasant they say or do to you affects you, bothers you and generates discomfort and frustration. I know it would be better for me to learn not to let myself be affected too much by others, but again, when you feel so intensely about reality, this is not in your hands.
When you are like me, facing your enemies, your fears, your intensities, your regrets, your good days and your bad days, is a most difficult task and it is the biggest challenge you have to face day after day, but it is something you always have to do. Because your ghosts, your demons, and your insecurities are mixed and only with the calmness of knowing that you already know how to face them is that you can make yourself better every day.
When you are a poet you get used to being misunderstood, but it doesn't bother you, because you know you are unique and original. You know that you have to face challenges that others do not understand and that your perceptions are enhanced by your poetic condition. Because a poet is a brave philosopher, who expresses in unintelligible words what he knows others will not be able to decipher easily with their reason.
Because to understand what a poet says you have to turn off your brain and put your heart in the right tune. It's like when you turn on a radio and search for your favorite station. That's how to understand someone who is a poet.
Because living with emotions on the surface is not and will never be easy, but poets have no choice. Either we feel, or we don't live.
Because he who is a poet feels as it breathes and breathes as it feels. Because the poet is a light in a neglected and decadent world. Because life is a poetry that almost nobody understands. Because we all live in a world where poetry is the only way out and the best option.
To live with emotions at the surface of the skin is the prerogative, the right and the emotion of being a true poet.
The poet is an incomplete and crazy being, who interprets and heals the world by connecting its words with its feelings and capturing them in letters on paper. That is how we, the true poets, are.*
