Few days ago, I comes across a news where a company was surprised to find that the candidate for an interview unable to solve basic maths. In my days, maths used to be our favourite subject. My parents alwsys insisted on getting the basics right. From revising the mathematical table to solving various question of length and measurement to time and distance. Those were challenging topics for us and solving even a single question gives us immense satisfaction. I remember, I used to collect all rhe spare pages of notebook and made a seperate notebook. Only to practice maths question. My Dad used to say that the more we practice the better we get. And that were thr golden words. As Math is not something that we can memorise. It is all about practice and finding different ways of solving question. Every math question has multiple ways, and discovering each of them used to be fascinating things.
But now seems the craze for mathematics has lost its charm in the digital lifestyle. The introduction of calculators, coputers, and even tye Google made mathematics very easy. You can search the question and all the answer are readily available. I have seen many kidd rather than trying and practicing, simply search the answer on the internet. This may appears to be easy way but the practice is not sensible equation for the long run.
Math is crucial in life as it impacts everything from budgeting and cooking to technology and data analysis. Here's a more detailed look at why math is important:
Math enhances logical reasoning and analytical thinking, which are essential for tackling everyday challenges and making informed decisions
Math is vital for managing money, creating budgets, understanding loans, and making sound financial decisions
Math helps us understand patterns, relationships, and make predictions, which is crucial for interpreting data, understanding statistics, and making sense of the world.
Math is used in countless everyday activities, including cooking (measuring ingredients), travel (calculating distances and time), and even playing music or sports
Therr are ample benefits of learning mathematics. Many careers, from engineering and science to finance and technology, rely heavily on mathematical skills. Math can improve memory, enhance cognitive function, and promote healthy brain development. Regularly engaging with math problems can sharpen mental abilities and improve problem-solving skills.
The question that were asked to those candidate was too simpler. It was to find the average speed. But GenX are not ready to cope up with mathematical skills. I hope people take note of this and make sure their kids get strong hold in mathematics.
In good faith - Peace!!
