I have no idea what I am doing.
But I am enjoying doing it.
Much like when I have sex.
Though there is much more wood in the deck.
And hopefully it lasts longer.
So now the framework for the stairs is in place, and I have measured and screwed and bounced up and down on it to ensure it is solid. I even bought some extra joist adjusters to support below, just to make sure it is going to stay firm under pressure.
Another double entendre.
Our tradie comes in tomorrow afternoon to continue on and probably laugh at and then repair the work I have done over the weekend. Hopefully, it won't be too long until we can start using it, though it will be a while more until this part is finished, because there isn't enough of the wood needed to complete the privacy wall.
The measurements for the wall were done by the wood place and they didn't measure well apparently, especially since I ordered even more than we needed, as I will use it to build the rubbish bin house. It takes up to a few weeks to get a piece of what we need, but no drama.
The only annoying thing from the wood supplier was that they packed the wood in the wrong order. This meant that the framing wood was underneath the deck wood, and everything had to be moved to get to what was needed first. This again doesn't sound like a big issue, but our trade was working alone last week, it was hot and it took him time and a lot of effort to do it. We pay for those hours, and he pays for the extra labour on his body. He knows the wood people well and has already had a talk with them about it.
While I might not be overly handy compared to many men in Finland, I enjoy doing the work and I think that overall, it is a good enough job. At least now, I can say I have built and have a pretty good idea of what it takes to build a terrace. Perhaps I missed my calling, as when I was a teen at school, I was pretty good at "tech studies", which was wood and metal work. At least for a time, finding work wouldn't be an issue, unlike the "new tech" industry in Finland.
There is always prostitution.
Though with my skills...
The evening is incredibly pleasant tonight, so even though the patio isn't complete, we opened a bottle of white wine and sat looking into the yard, considering what we need to do next. Need is relative to what is financially possible. If we can't afford to do more, we don't need to do more.
Though a glasshouse would be nice for the autumn nights when it is too cold to sit in the open air.
