Well I kind of expected this outcome
I did promote the post after all expecting a hot headed debate. And I have to say that I find the outcome quite productive since I wanted the community to chime into the question of whether or not self-voting is okay? and we have seen all sorts of opinions regarding it.
It' clear to me that the majority does not believe that self-voting one's posts is a good idea. Let me be blunt: I have done so myself in the past since I believed that it is okay to do so until a certain threshold regarding HP is reached (yes, it's of course a bit vague). Receiving downvotes for doing so is now a welcomed reflection of that practice and I will change my behavior accordingly. Putting myself in the spotlight can of course be seen as disadvantageous, but I think that overall it can be a productive way in engaging with the community and understanding people's outlook on certain topics. It probably makes sense to have these "big" discussions every once in a while since we do not have a "protocol" on Hive regarding certain user actions and new users might not be familiar with them.
I also again want to reiterate that putting anyone else "in the spotlight" for certain behaviors (in this case self-voting) was not done with ill intention. I am not interested in the drama or (past) feuds that some users have had. I simply wanted to present the data of some superficial research I made and if that light of curiosity was shone on you I guess I am sorry. That said, I was considering to make a comprehensive list of people self-voting their posts (with 6 figures HP) so that nobody would feel "targeted". That would probably cause a Shitstorm of epic proportions. But why though? We have data on Hive about all sorts of user behavior (staking, delegating etc.) and voting behavior is just another dataset. For now, however, I am satisfied with having received an opinion on this matter, so I don't feel that it's so urgent. If there is interest in it, let me know!
