In one of our afternoon conversations before going to sleep, April and I talked about the difference in our lives growing up back then versus now.
For context, we are talking about the food that I will be cooking in the next few days and how I am getting tired of eating the same dishes over and over again. Dyn-dyn has an allergy to chicken and other poultry products, so our options are quite limited. While talking about food we had a short talk about what are the foods that we eat when we were kids.
I told her that each time our family doesn't have that much we fry small pieces of galunggong or even tuyo for breakfast. If in case that we want to have some soup we pour water over the cooked rice and voila you now have soupy rice. We also pour coffee over rice but on rare occurrences only.
She, on the other hand, shared about the soy sauce and oil and harvested vegetables in her area that are for free.
Tagal na nating di nakakakain nyan ano? - It has been quite some time since we ate such food right? I asked and she said yes and she was kinda missing it and wanting to have such foods prepared.
Life was kinda hard back then, right? Even if you don't like the food our option is limited because we have a limited budget too back then. Indeed it is and probably this is why I become a picky eater now, as it is rooted in the longing for good-tasting foods that were not prepared before.
Maybe we are not as poor as we think we are? - I asked.
Yes because if we are poor, most likely our options are limited, we wouldn't be able to travel elsewhere and most likely I am also working in the office to make ends meets, we even ordered some milk teas and other foods if we don't like what's prepared - She answered.
Do you think Dyn should experience some stuff that we had experienced back then? - I asked
If it brought up splendid memories on our part why not. Maybe share some past experiences that we had before too right about us having limited options to choose from?
Yeah, it will be a good thing to do. But most importantly, aside from practicing gratitude, she needs to learn financial education at an early age so that she will have a better standing in the future as we try to pave the way for her and watch her grow.
As we ended our talk, we looked at each other and together with our little one and thanked God for giving us the blessings that we had. Though we are not that financially stable, we are not lacking, disagreements in the household still happens because disagreements are part of life but we are growing together as the days go by.
