Meu lindo Brasil, tantas coisas para amar e odiar ao mesmo tempo. Como muitos de vocês sabem, fui visitar meu pai, que está com muitos problemas de saúde. Mas ainda assim tive tempo de comer algumas comidas que só encontramos lá, ou pelo menos são mais fáceis de encontrar. Muitas pessoas, quando me falam sobre a comida brasileira, geralmente falam do nosso churrasco, já que provavelmente foram a uma churrascaria brasileira, que geralmente é rodizio liberado. É interessante que no Brasil elas são comuns, mas não nos ofendemos porque são caras lá. Depois da pandemia, muitas fecharam no Rio de Janeiro de duas maneiras. Mas é comum as pessoas fazerem um bom churrasco em casa.
No entanto, para mim, os grandes vencedores são o famoso "Pão de Queijo" e o "Açaí". Nada mais brasileiro do que isso. Podemos encontrar bifes de carne na maior parte do mundo, provavelmente não na Índia. Mas o açaí só é encontrado no Brasil, que é um fruto de uma palmeira, mais presente no Norte do país. E o "Pão de Queijo" é um pão assado com queijo de polvilho, sem glúten.
Reservei um tempo para ir a um "Rei do Mate" perto da casa dos meus pais, onde pude comprar os dois. Decidi ser um pouco diferente com o açaí. Antigamente, eu costumava usar o smoothie mais forte, adicionando apenas um morango batido. Mas desta vez, decidi pegar um clássico local, adicionando mais ingredientes, como banana, granola e leite em pó. É lindo, mas, pelo sabor, ainda prefiro o mais forte, que é mais ácido. Com certeza é um lanche difícil de encontrar no Canadá. Podemos fazer "Pão de Queijo" em casa e até comprar congelados no Costco. Mas o smoothie de açaí eu só consigo comer em Calgary, numa loja da Oak Berry, então preciso dirigir 2 horas para chegar lá!
My beautiful Brazil, so many things to love and to hate at the same time. As most of you know, I went to visit my father, who is having so many health problems. But still I had time to eat some food that we can only find there, or at least easier there. Many people, when they talk to me about Brazil's food, they usually talk about our barbecue, since they probably went to a Brazilian steak house, which is usually all you can eat. It is interesting that in Brazil they are common, but we don't go often since they are expensive there. After the pandemic, many closed down in Rio de Janeiro in two ways. But it is common for people to have a nice barbecue at home.
However, for me it is the famous "Pão de queijo" and the"Açaí" smoothie that are the big winners. Nothing more Brazilian than that. Meat steaks we can find meat steaks in most of the world, probably not in India. But açaí is only found in Brazil which is a fruit from a palm tree, most present in the North of the country. And "Pão de queijo" is a baked round bread made with cheese and tapioca flour, with no gluten at all.
I had some time to a "Rei do Mate" near my parents' home, where I could buy both. I decided to be a bit different with the Açai. Usually, in the past, I went with the bold smoothie, adding only a strawberry blended in the smoothie. But this time I decided to get a local classic, adding more stuff, such as bananas, granola and milk powder. It is beautiful, but for the taste, I still prefer the bold one, which is more acidic. That is for sure a snack difficult to find in Canada. We can make "Pão de queijo" at home, and even buy frozen ones at Costco. But the Açaí smoothie I only can eat it in Calgary at an Oak Berry store, so I need to drive 2 hours to get there !
