It seems that the Universe has started communicating with me a lot since we moved out to the countryside. It's been a very busy few weeks since we got here but we have settled in nicely and really started to appreciate the beauty and fresh air of small town living.
So it was fitting that a month to the day after we moved here, this thematic challenge of fumigating (or what we call energy cleansing) the house came up in my feed. Thank you Hive and Thank you Universe! It was obviously time for us to get out the mortar and pestle, do some collecting of herbs and get the energy balanced in our new home.
My husband and I were discussing what we had run out of ingredients wise and the first thing he said was Rose Petals. I smiled as we now have four beautiful rose buses at the front of our house that are flowering profusely after we moved in (I think they like us because we spoil them a bit).
They were my first collecting point. One of the greatest things about living in an arid area is that everything outside is dry - the humidity here is very low, so roses that fade yield dry petals after only two days.
The next was to get my jar of dried peppermint leaves that I harvested a few days ago. I really like adding peppermint to incense as it lifts my spirits.
I also collected a few fresh leaves of oregano. It's quite a pungent herb so I never add a huge amount to my burner.
Once I had collected all of these, I chose some dried hibiscus, raspberry, mullein and frankincense resin from our stash of loose incense ingredients. By this time my daughter had caught on to what I was up to and insisted on letting her mix her own in her tiny mortar and pestle. This is what I love about nature, it is all inclusive and our daughter is a huge outdoors girl. She absolutely loves looking after plants, she knows all the herbs that we grow by name and can identify them with ease. It is such a beautiful bonding and cohesive element in our family.
She was very happy with being included in the preparation process.
Once we had mixed everything together she insisted on adding Bay leaves and I thought that was an excellent choice. We ensured that there was good ventilation through the house and then we set the charcoal alight and added a few pinches of our newly made loose incense. It was interesting to note that almost immediately my husband smelled the bay and got hungry, while I found myself in a brief few minutes of irritability before it completely subsided and I felt very calm and peaceful.
It was intriguing that my husband and I had such different responses. Perhaps it highlighted what our bodies were already telling us. He went and found a sandwich and I relaxed into my favorite wingback chair. I have been rather stressed lately and I think that this response was the stress culminating into a peak and then being released as I relaxed. Our daughter went on a flurry of energy outside before settling down quite nicely again.
The house energy definitely felt lighter afterwards. Towards the end of this week we will be continuing with cleansing the house, but mostly physically as this also has a big impact on our state of mind. I'll be making sure to collect, dry, mix and burn our loose incense more regularly.
Comments & friendly suggestions are always welcome.
Until next time, have a great day.
