Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today the little man and I are back with a fun critter find!

Lil' Snapper
The little man and I found a new little river trail to go on a walk when we take him to his extra learning lesson program. We've been there a few times and we've found some cool things on the ground but this is a first for him and I!
If there's one thing the little man loves it's picking things up from the ground, in particular critters lol. He's an adventurous little dude that's for sure! When we were walking, I saw something up ahead figuring it was a piece of trash or something but when we got closer we got a better look and thought it was weird it looked like a turtle. Got closer and boom a baby snapper! Lol The thing was definitely cute at that size. I thought it was dead at first but he started to wiggle!
We were surprised that the little dude made it all that way, or his mother laid the eggs that far from the river. The river was easily 150 feet away or so, so the poor fella was never going to make it in the way he was going! We decided to intervene a little bit and give him a hand. I know there are a lot of things we shouldn't intervene with as humans when it comes to the animal world, but turtles are one of the animals I like and don't mind giving a hand!
Snapping turtles are not my favorite that's for sure because they screw up the fishing that we do lol there is an adult one that terrorized the area we were fishing in this summer and he scared all of the good fish away! I was pretty annoyed, but you can't fault them for their adult behaviors as a baby like this.
We put the little fella near the river and pointed it to the direction of the water. It knew exactly what it was for whatever reason and started to try and scurry over towards it! It was fun to watch him skirting around in the mud, not making good progress but I guess when you are that small and have little feet, I'm sure any progress getting away from those giant animals that just picked you up, is good progress!
We ended up giving it a bit more of a hand and put the little fella right in the water. I felt bad but the river that we put him in was moving a little faster than I thought and the turtle got out into the water and started to swim away but then got caught up in the current and got moved a lot faster than I'm sure it was thinking it could go lol. It was struggling a little bit to get it's head above water but they are turtles so they are built for this type of stuff so I didn't feel too bad, at that point the strong will survive!
Seeing the turtle struggle, the little man was upset and started to cry thinking it was going to die. I was able to get him to calm down a little bit to explain that it was important for that to happen, because the turtles need to be in the water otherwise they will die. He didn't love the explanation attempt but was satisfied enough to stop crying so that was good lol.
