Hi fellow Hiveians,
We had more fun in a tide pool recently where we got a formal tour and education on some of the stuff!

Tide Pool Fun
One of the things we are always trying to do is learn and find things for our son to do so he can explore and do things that we might not have been able to do when we were younger. That means we are visiting all kinds of awesome places! We signed up for a tide pool event that a local aquarium thing was doing. We went there a few years ago before the Rona happened and it was a lot of fun and some great educational opportunities all over the place. We decided that we were going to check it out again now that people aren’t as terrified and things have gone back to more of a normal pace. We spend a lot of time in tide pools ourselves since it’s a lot of fun for us and the little man so this wasn’t something totally new or foreign to him. It showed too, the instructors of the class were amazed at how much he knew and how good he was at handling the critters!
I didn’t find many good crabs in this adventure but what we did find was two decent sized ones. This guy here was really hoping to sink his claws into my skin! It’s a good thing I didn’t let him get my actual skin and that it was just the glove, that would have hurt for sure if he got a tender spot! Lol.
We are going to come back to this particular area again a few more times. It was teeming with life! We occasionally see sea urchins and stuff on the other beaches we frequent but I think there aren’t as many of them there because there’s lots of people and with that comes waste and stuff. That’s where the crabs come in and clean up the food and eat the leftovers. The sea urchins though aren’t as frequent in those areas as they were here. I found at least a dozen of them! I found the biggest one of the day and probably the biggest one of my life as well so that was really cool. We made sure to not hurt them, if we picked them up we were careful to not hurt or force them and put them back where we found it or under a rock so they could hide.
What do we have here?
If you can guess what this is, you could win a bit of free hive for reading this! Hell depending on the entries I’ll give away some just for keeping an eye on what I write lol.
The highlight of the day and why we think this area will be one we come back to again a few more times in the future was this guy here! We found another lobster! We found a lobster a few weeks ago on a different beach but that one didn’t seem like it was in the best of health. This one here was prime and ready to fight! Lol. He was just hiding under a rock when the instructor moved it and bam there it was. I wasn’t there to see it unfortunately but Siena took a picture of it so we could enjoy it later. It was a great sized one too!
Thankfully the thing wasn’t hurt or anything and it ended up swimming away after it was cleared a path between the kids. The kids were all loving it and one tried to pick it up. Thankfully the instructor intervened and told her not to do it so that she didn’t get hurt or the lobster didn’t get hurt. I think it was a good idea, the family didn’t seem like they were very outdoorsy people lol. Glad they were out enjoying it with us though!
What types of critters have you encountered lately that you weren’t expecting? Let me know in the comments or link me to a post!
