Thanks to the posts shared by @borjan in various communities, I remembered that I also have pictures from several tours of Istria, the Croatian peninsula, in the north of the Adriatic Sea.
So I decided to share those unforgettable photos and stories with you…
I will introduce you "Kotli", an area of exceptional beauty in the center of Istria. We visited this natural phenomenon at the beginning of summer, in June 2021.
Kotli is a place located in Istria, near the town of Buzet. What this place is famous for are the waterfalls of the river, whose have made cauldron-like depressions in the rocks, which is why the place itself got its name - Kotli (cauldron in translation).
This uninhabited village attracts visitors with its beautiful nature, primarily waterfalls and natural 'pools' with turquoise water. It is located east of Buzet, in the valley of Rečina, whose waters, after merging with the tributary Draga, form the river Mirna.
In the past, this village was full of residents who were engaged in various crafts, but today the old mill and abandoned stone houses bear witness to some past times. Kotli is a protected rural environment, which looks really reminiscent of the famous Turkish Pamukkale.
Due to isolation, Kotli has preserved its rural appearance from the end of the 19th century, and of the former 60 mills, only one is still functional. You can swim in the natural pools, but keep in mind that during the summer the river bed can be dry, so if you plan to swim, visit Kotli in spring or autumn.
Unfortunately, we visited Kotli in the summer, when the water level was already quite low, so it was not possible to swim.
If your journey takes you to this beautiful place over the summer, don't worry, you won't be alone. In addition to numerous tourists, there are also several old stone houses rented by tourists for overnight stays, as well as a restaurant where you can refresh yourself and enjoy lunch with a view of the Istrian Pamukkae.
