Hello Amazing Nature Community. I am quite excited and happy to be able to continue with this personal series of mine. Last week's featured plant can be found here for those who missed it and would want to read up on it. Do follow me and discover some amazing plants this side of the world.
For this week I will feature a very useful plant we have in our house. It is a very sturdy plant and is not a high maintenance one. It does not have that much beauty to show nor does it have any flowers to boast of. All it offers are leaves of light green with white and yellow markings in the middle. I am talking about the plant that is called Pothos.
Pothos is a Southeast Asian climbing plant (Epipremnum aureum or Scindapsus aureus) of the arum family. It is grown primarily as a houseplant for its leathery or waxy heart-shaped green leaves that are spotted or streaked with golden yellow or white. Wikipedia.
As I said earlier it is a very sturdy plant and actually do well in low light and neglect. It is perfect for those who have the opposite of a green thumb and for beginners. But aside from this, Pothos is a very beneficial plant to have indoors. It serves to purify the air of formaldehyde, benzene and carbon monoxide while also helping eliminate odors. Pothos, they say, can also help alleviate eye irritation after long hours of staring at computer screens and cellphones. In fact, Pothos is one of the plants recommended by the NASA to have inside the home because of its antioxidant and purifying nature.
Aside from this, for those who believe in Feng Shui, this plant can bring good luck. The Pothos is also called the Money Plant and is one of the best Feng Shui plants because of the positive energy flow it produces, attracting wealth and good luck. It is to be placed in front of sharp corners or angles to reduce stress, negative thoughts and anxiety.
We have quite a number of this Pothos plants in the garden. My wife prefers to grow plants that have anti oxidant properties such as this Pothos, Spider Plants, Whale Fin, Sword Plant and Dumb Canes. The NASA Clean Air Study recommended one of each of these air purifying plants for every 100 square feet of area. Here are some of our Pothos which my wife is propagating.
Give yourselves the quality air that you deserve. Grow as much as you can of these Pothos and have an air purifier inside your home. Place them all around the house to protect you and your loved ones from oxidants and chemicals in the air.
All for now. Thanks for visiting and, hopefully, following me in this series. Keep safe and may I wish you all a blessed week ahead.
