Many aquatic plants are found in lakes, ponds, rivers, reservoirs and other aquatic environments and wetlands. Which can be seen floating in water or submerged in water. And special thanks to Nature Lover @adalger for organizing such a beautiful contest to write something about this. Although I was late to participate in the contest, I am very happy to be able to participate in such a beautiful contest.
Floating aquatic plants are found in large numbers in every part of the world, especially in rivers, canals, beels and low water bodies. Some of them are harmful for our crop lands and some of them are beneficial. Water hyacinth is one of these floating aquatic plants. Which has both beneficial and detrimental aspects. Let's know something about water hyacinth in Bangladesh.
Water hyacinth
Scientific Name : Eichornia crassipes
Water hyacinth is an aquatic plant floating in water. Which can be seen in abundance in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, rivers, canals, beels, fields, ghats, ponds, ponds and water hyacinths can be seen floating on the ground below.
Water hyacinth can reproduce very quickly. Almost every pond is filled with water hyacinth. This disrupted navigation and made it difficult to cultivate paddy and jute on low lands. As a result, there was a recession in the economy of Bengal. In this condition water hyacinth is considered as weed. Even many people in our area stop cultivating the land due to the presence of water hyacinth in the land. But there are many good aspects that are unknown to most people.
Water hyacinth is the benefit of our agricultural land
Although most people in our country consider water hyacinth to be a curse, we can get a lot of good from it which is unknown to many of us. We can make compost manure by decomposing water hyacinth. That means piled up and rotten water hyacinth is acting as an excellent fertilizer for the crop.
Moreover, in the rural areas of Bengal, many people are seen cultivating different types of vegetables by decomposing the water hyacinth in piles. Many people cultivate different types of vegetables on floating water hyacinth. Landless farmers started using water hyacinth floats in agriculture. Nowadays water hyacinth is a blessing for farmers.
Moreover, water hyacinth is used in large quantities as fodder for cattle. Moreover, many people in rural areas use dried water hyacinth as fuel. In many areas, water hyacinth flowers are eaten as food. However, at present water hyacinth is the most used for artificial fertilizer and vegetable cultivation.
A few days ago I photographed water hyacinth and water hyacinth flowers from a pond in our area and a small river flowing in front of our house.
