Los Geckos o tuqueques, por lo general son objeto de rechazo o miedo entre las personas, también se dice que son portadores de enfermedades o inclusive que pueden ser agresivos, por lo que generalmente son eliminados, todas estas creencias son falsas, son inofensivos, no son venenosos.

Hace algunos años atrás tenia muy poco conocimiento de estas lagartijas, un día en mi trabajo ví en la pared una de ellas, me asusté mucho pensé que era una culebra, y busque ayuda, el señor que me ayudó me dijo como se llamaba y también me contó que eran muy peligrosos pues soltaba con tal fuerza la cola que hacía daño en la piel, eso me lleno de pánico hacia los tuqueques, bueno cada vez que encontraba uno la carrera que pegaba era grande, jajajaja, les tenía terror.

Poco tiempo después los comencé a ver en casa de mi hermana y decidí observarlos, ví como atrapaban moscas y zancudos con su lengua y rapidez, quedé sorprendida, apenas yo me acercaba ellos desaparecían, de esta forma fue cambiando mi
percepción y miedo hacia los tuqueques. Posteriormente los comencé a ver en casa, ya que donde vivo a eso de las 6 de la tarde llegan muchos zancudos por ser una zona algo húmeda, les cuento que ya no les tengo miedo, al contrario ya hasta me gusta tenerlos en casa pues se que ayudan a controlar todos los insectos que son muy molestos y dañinos para la salud, hay muchos insectos que a veces llegan a casa como por ejemplo las chiripas, recuerdo que mi esposo en una oportunidad trajo un cartón de huevos venían envueltos en una bolsa, yo les quite la bolsa y no tuve la precaución de revisarlos, pues que creen debajo del cartón había chiripas, eso fue terrible pues las veía por doquier y aunque fumigaba ellas al tiempo salían de nuevo, y desde que veo algún tuqueque por allí en la cocina, más nunca ví una chiripa.
