Recently, I found out the usual method of sewing peplum with a fusible interfacing is outdated, it doesn't last, after the first two wash, the standing effect of your peplum is nowhere to be found
So, I tried out a new method with a crinoline also known as horse hair braid and it came out pretty good, the standing effect is there and the bouncing effect is there
And it doesn't seems like one that would loose its standing effects after the first two or three wash
Cost wise, it is cheaper compare to the fusible interfacing and also durable
The crinoline or horse hair braids comes in different colours and widths
It can also be used to make fascinators and hats
For my design here, I made use of a 3" (3 inches) black colour crinoline or horse hair braid
So, after cutting my flare with the ankara fabric and also the linen, its a 360° flare, I ironed it well to make the sewing fast and the stitch neat
I secured the rough edges of the crinoline or horse hair braid with a bias tape because those edges are sharp, rough and can make one uncomfortable if not secured
I then placed the linen on the Ankara fabric and pinned it down before attaching the crinoline or horse hair braid on the linen so avoid the linen shifting positionlook
After then, I placed my crinoline or horse hair braid on the linen and started sewing with a half inch stitch
I avoided pulling or stretching the crinoline or horse hair braid while sewing because this can cause it to be out of shape giving it a funny look
I didn't allow my crinoline to enter my zipper space, left about one and half inches away on both edges for my zipper allowance and to turn in my peplum as this can cause tge zipper not to relax well on the fabric and can also deform the peplum shape at the back
After sewing my crinoline on my fabric and also turning in the edges with the linen it came out really nice, the peplum can be use as a cape or sleeves but in this case I'll be attaching it to an upper bodice
I would have went ahead to attach this to an upper bodice but it turn out to be that I sew my Ankara fabric on the wrong side so, I will have to rip it off and sew again on the right side
You'll agree with me that it's really annoying but I just have to make the dress perfect for my mum, I promised to sew her clothes first after I got my sewing machine before any other and it just have to be well designed
That is one of the challenges of sewing a pure cotton ankara fabric.
