It was a holiday and my beautiful niece came to visit sometime in August last year, being a fashion designer I decided to make lots of outfits for her that she would take back home.
I started with this lace.
It's transparent so I decided to use taffeta as lining for it, I used a royal blue taffeta lining, zipper, and a little scuba for a little design in front and then silver trimmings.
I didn't have any muse to work with so I just thought of something simple and fine and boom I moved to my work table.
The style I had in mind was just an armless ball dress (gathers stitch for the lower part to be precise).
I used her body measurement to fold the upper bodice, her half-length was about 9 inches in length and about 5 inches in width on the fold plus 2 inches for sewing allowance.
I placed the front bodice pattern on the back and added a 1-inch allowance for the zipper.
I cut about 11 inches in length for the lower bodice of about 1 and a half yards in width to make the gathered stitch.
I did the same for the taffeta as the lining.
I used the taffeta to turn the lace and then I used a pink ribbon to pipe the neckline, being baby wear, I wanted to play with baby colors, that was why I chose the royal blue lace which had a touch of pink.
They say pink is cute on baby girls so yeah, I wanted my baby to look cute.
The front neckline was just a round neck while the back was a very deep vee-neckline.
After working on the upper bodice, I pipped the armhole with the pink bias, added the pink scuba in form of a mini rose, and did a little cute something there, I joined the lower bodice with the gathered stitch and used the taffeta as lining underneath the gathers and then I used the tafetta As a belt for the back.
I used the trimmings to cover up the haircut front and embellish the outfit.
Then my baby's dress was ready to flaunt, the sweetest thing about this outfit is the excitement from my niece.
Immediately I told her her dress was ready, she told me to fit it on her.
Would you believe she started looking for a purse to rock the outfit with it? She's that funny, and then she said "Snap me na, I am a fine girl" ๐
Then I brought out my phone and took nice shots of my beautiful baby girl.
So here is the view.
The front view.
The back view.
So yes, this is just one of the so many outfits I made for my baby. I'll share others some other time.
I am glad the color suits her so well, she's enjoying the perk of having a fashion designer as an aunt.
All images are mine and shot by me.
I'll make a good photographer though๐
