Mommy, can we please stitch?
Oh dear! This Little Miss is really into arts and crafts. I just wish she would spend as much attention to reading and writing. Ever since I introduced stitching to her sometime back, she's been very interested on the craft. We've done some mini projects like sewing buttons and basic stitches. Actually, these are what I can only teach her, since I'm not really into sewing. 🥴
Then she saw this unfinished cross stitch project of her Kuya (elder brother) and she asked if I can also buy her one. Today, as I did the grocery shopping, I decided to make her happy. I swung by the school supplies section and grabbed a "simple" cross stitch kit.

It has this cute little bunny design and once finished, it can be sewn into a bag.
Little Miss was very eager to open the pack and start stitching! I have barely rested from my trip to the grocery (the heat outside was full-blast!) and I had to leave again to fetch @kennyroy from his office so I just let her do the simplest part I could see at the time.
First Challenge: Thread the Needle!
After showing her how it was done, I handed her over to her Kuya who already had the idea how to make a cross stitch since it was also his project last year. While I was away, they did the part of the bunny's bow.
Unlike my previous cross stitching experiences where I had to count the boxes at the pattern and sew on the corresponding thread color, this kit has the pattern drawn on the cloth and you just have to fill the spaces in. No need to count the spaces, just follow the lines.
I don't know if that is easier, we'll see as they progress.
Meanwhile, another problem albeit minor, was the thread. They were just bunched together and I was confused at first.
The pattern supplied in the kit also shows the number of thread provided in each color. Good thing, I easily got them sorted else I would have asked the kids to abandon the project. Lol.
Nah, of course, we will aim to finish the project. Little Miss is already asking how we'd make this into a bag like in the drawing. BTW, the kit also had a string and 2 metal rings for the bag along with instruction on how to sew it together. She also thought about just framing it once done but when I asked again, she said, bag it is!
I am not sure how long it will take these two to finish this project (I think I also want to put my hands into it!) but this is a good activity for them to divert their attention from gadgets and TV.
We still have lessons to finish for our homeschooling Q4, so we might take longer. Let's see.
