Un día como cualquier otro estaba haciendo quien sabe que cosa en mi taller y llega un mensaje de un amigo que me dice que le dio mi numero a una artista y que ella me va a escribir. Al poco tiempo de eso me escribió para decirme que era realmente su hija la que necesitaba hablar conmigo. Entre tantos intermediarios la curiosidad me mataba hasta que por fin pude hablar con quien seria la detonadora de un nuevo hobby para mi.
Ella me comenta que ha visto uno de mis corazones tejidos y le ha encantado el trabajo, corazones que por cierto no he llegado a mostrar aquí pero por si tienen curiosidad están en mi cuenta de Instagram @jhoakruci.
Continuando ella me dice que se va a casar pronto y que desea llevar en el torso del vestido un corazón de Jesús bordado con canutillos. EN MI VIDA he bordado con canutillos o con cualquier otra cosa, ni siquiera me gusta andar agarrando una aguja para coser, aunque bueno, esto a cambiado mucho últimamente gracias a las distintas propuestas artísticas que han pasado por mi mente. Así que antes de decirle que no a la muchacha, decidí buscar en YouTube Como bordar con canutillos y después de ver unos cuantos Shorts me sentí lo suficientemente capaz de lograrlo.

One day like any other day I was doing who knows what in my workshop and a message came from a friend telling me that he gave my number to an artist and that she was going to write me. Shortly after that she wrote me to tell me that it was really her daughter who needed to talk to me. Between so many intermediaries the curiosity was killing me until finally I was able to talk to the person who would be the detonator of a new hobby for me.
She tells me that she has seen one of my knitted hearts and loved the work, hearts that by the way I have not shown here but in case you are curious they are on my Instagram account @jhoakruci.
Continuing she tells me that she is getting married soon and that she wants to wear a heart of Jesus embroidered with beads on the torso of her dress. In my life I have never embroidered with beads or with anything else, I don't even like to hold a needle to sew, but well, this has changed a lot lately thanks to the different artistic proposals that have passed through my mind. So before saying no to the girl, I decided to search on YouTube How to embroider with beads and after watching a few Shorts I felt capable enough to do it.

Desde el primer momento fui muy clara en las cero habilidades para bordar que tenia, sin embargo eso no impidió en que trabajáramos juntas en lograr esta idea. El contacto se hizo a finales de mayo y la boda se realizara para mediados de agosto por lo que tenia un buen tiempo para experimentar.
From the very beginning I was very clear about my zero embroidery skills, but that didn't stop us from working together to achieve this idea. The contact was made at the end of May and the wedding was scheduled for mid-August so I had plenty of time to experiment.
Lo primero que hice fue ponerme a practicar puntadas con algunos hilos que tenia guardados y luego de eso fui directo a comprar canutillos y más hilos. Todo lo fui comprando sin tener mucha idea si lo iba a necesitar o no, pero bueno estaba en esa primera etapa de "fiebre" donde quería tener todos los materiales que pudiera.
Así fue como termine haciendo este primer corazón rescatando algunos elementos de la idea principal como el fuego y la linea de espinas. Este era mi primer bordado por lo que fue justo el ejercicio necesario para lo que seria la idea principal.

The first thing I did was to start practicing stitches with some threads I had saved and after that I went straight to buy bobbins and more threads. I bought everything without having much idea if I was going to need it or not, but well, I was in that first stage of "fever" where I wanted to have all the materials I could.
That's how I ended up making this first heart, rescuing some elements of the main idea like the fire and the line of thorns. This was my first embroidery so it was just the necessary exercise for what would be the main idea.
La idea era hacer el corazón de Jesús pero basándome en la forma del corazón humano. Todo bastante simplificado para que a la hora de comenzar a bordar no me fuera a enredarme toda.
The idea was to make the heart of Jesus but based on the shape of the human heart. Everything quite simplified so that when I started embroidering I wouldn't get all tangled up.

Después de hacer el boceto y pasarlo a una hoja de calco ahora si comencé a dibujar en la tela. Este dibujo lo hice con lápiz, sin embargo a los días vi que un contacto estaba vendiendo lapicero de tela y compre de una vez; por cierto que me parecen increíbles.
Trabaje en un retazo de tela dopiovelo que tenia de años atrás por eso se puede apreciar algo de suciedad y manchas.

After making the sketch and transferring it to a tracing sheet, now I started to draw on the fabric. I did this drawing with pencil, however a few days later I saw that a contact was selling fabric pencils and I bought them all at once; by the way they look amazing.
I worked on a piece of dopiovelo fabric that I had from years ago, that's why you can see some dirt and stains.
En este punto no estaba nada segura de lo que iba a hacer ni cuanto tiempo me iba a tomar y mucho menos del costo total de este bordado, pero bueno estaba muy motivada a cumplir con mi objetivo.

At this point I wasn't sure what I was going to do or how much time it was going to take, let alone the total cost of this embroidery, but I was very motivated to accomplish my goal.
In this case and as I did in the sketch with markers, I outlined the whole drawing with a vinotint colored thread and worked most of it with two strands of thread. As I told you before, my embroidery knowledge up to this point was zero, so I spent most of my time watching videos on YouTube, like this one of Amalia Ricalde explaining types of stitches.

Una vez delineado todo seguí con un marrón en la cruz y las espinas. Sinceramente no sabia como debía hacer el relleno del corazón por eso busqué hacer las otras formas que eran mas pequeñas y ya tenia definida la puntada que utilizaría.
Once everything was outlined, I continued with a brown cross and the thorns. I honestly didn't know how I should do the filling of the heart so I tried to make the other shapes that were smaller and I had already defined the stitch I would use.
Lo bueno de no tener presión con la fecha es que no estaba apurada por mostrar un resultado por lo que en cualquier ratico libre agarraba la aguja para ponerme con toda la calma del mundo a bordar, por supuesto anotando en todo momento la hora de inicio y del fin para llevar mi cuenta de las horas de trabajo total que consumiría haciendo este bordado.
The good thing about not having pressure with the date is that I was not in a hurry to show a result, so in any free moment I grabbed the needle to start embroidering with all the calmness in the world, of course writing down at all times the start and end time to keep track of the total hours of work that I would consume doing this embroidery.
Para rellenar el corazón usé la técnica de pintar con hilos, aunque aun no me quedo claro si ese es el nombre o se llama punto atrás - punto adelante. Indiferentemente me funciono bastante bien para rellenar todo de rojo.
To fill in the heart I used the thread painting technique, although I'm still not sure if that's the name or if it's called dot back - dot forward. Anyway, it worked quite well to fill the whole thing with red.
Es muy bonito ver como va agarrando forma todo y hasta se iba logrando el parecido al boceto.

Contrario a lo que en un principio pensaba, hacer estos rayos de luz me llevo muchísimo tiempo y altero bastante mi paz mental al tratar de rellenar espacios tan pequeños, pero bueno, con costuras torcidas y todo logre terminarlos.
Contrary to what I thought at first, making these light rays took a lot of time and disturbed my peace of mind trying to fill in such small spaces, but well, twisted seams and all, I managed to finish them.
Ahora venia una parte que no sabia muy bien como iba a integrar, si recuerdan la idea de la muchacha es un bordado con canutillos y hasta el momento solo había hecho el trabajo de hilos. Entonces hice lo que seria mas obvio que es coser todo el borde del corazón con canutillos rojos. Aquí fui trabajando de dos en dos piezas para poder hacer esas curvas del dibujo.
Now came a part that I didn't know very well how I was going to integrate, if you remember the idea of the girl is an embroidery with beads and so far I had only done the thread work. I was a little afraid of sewing the beads and that in the end it would not turn out the way I wanted or that some of the work already done would be damaged, so I left it for the end. Then I continued with the fire embroidery where I used three shades of yellow making a degradation.

Realmente no se bien como se debe terminar el bordado para que perdure con el tiempo y no se ande desbaratando nada, pero como este es para mi decidí asegurarlo con pega. Entiendo que para usarlo en una prenda de vestir no seria la mejor opción, por eso si tienes alguna sugerencia me encantaría leerla.
Estoy muy feliz con el resultado y como se puede ver la diferencia entre el primer corazón y el segundo y también por el hecho de por fin dar ese paso para hacer algo que desde hace mucho tiempo quería. Ahora puedo ser una señora en la época victoriana que se sienta a bordar y ya. En total fueron 26 horas de trabajo por mas o menos dos semanas.

Once finished I applied white glue to glue all the threads. I don't really know how to finish the embroidery so that it lasts over time and doesn't fall apart, but since this is for me I decided to secure it with glue. I understand that to use it on a garment would not be the best option, so if you have any suggestions I would love to read them.
I am very happy with the result and as you can see the difference between the first heart and the second one and also for the fact of finally taking that step to do something I have wanted to do for a long time. Now I can be a lady in the Victorian era who sits down to embroider and that's it. In total there were 26 hours of work for more or less two weeks.
