Greetings and blessings, my dear friends of the needles. I hope you are in good health and wellness and that it is a week of much inspiration and creativity.
This weekend I concentrated on one of those projects that fills the soul: knitting grannys with some colorful wicker yarns that were brought to me from Venezuela. They belonged to my mom, so from the very first moment I knew that this project would have a great emotional value for me. From the moment I held them in my hands I felt a special connection, as if the stitches I was making with them brought me a little closer to her memories and to everything she taught me with her loving example.
This project was a bit challenging, as I had no written pattern. Just a picture sent to me by a friend. I sat with my crochet, observing every detail of the picture, trying to count stitches, to imagine how I should start and how each loop was forming. I'm not going to lie: there were times when I had to unknit and start over. But with each attempt I began to understand the logic of the design, and little by little, the granny began to take shape. I was pleasantly surprised to see that, without precise instructions, I was able to follow the pattern by observation alone.

Este fin de semana me concentré en uno de esos proyectos que llenan el alma: tejer grannys con unos hilos de pabilo de colores que me trajeron de Venezuela. Eran de mi mamá, así que desde el primer momento supe que este proyecto tendría un valor emocional muy grande para mí. Desde que los tuve en mis manos sentí una conexión especial, como si las puntadas que estaba haciendo con ellos me acercara un poco más a sus recuerdos y a todo lo que ella me enseñó con su ejemplo amoroso.
Este proyecto fue un poco retador, pues no tenía un patrón escrito. Solo una foto que me envió una amiga. Me senté con mi crochet, observando cada detalle de la imagen, tratando de contar puntos, de imaginar cómo debía comenzar y cómo se iba formando cada vuelta. No voy a mentir: hubo momentos en que tuve que destejer y volver a empezar. Pero con cada intento fui entendiendo la lógica del diseño, y poco a poco, el granny comenzó a tomar forma. Me sorprendió gratamente ver que, sin instrucciones precisas, fui capaz de seguir el patrón solo con la observación.
I did, however, realize something important: I need a granny blocker. Although they look nice, they don't look perfectly square. I think it may also be because of the quality of the yarns. So I'm going into action to look for one that I'm sure will come in handy from now on.
This project has given me a lot of joy because I knitted with my mom's yarns and because it is the first time I knit without following a pattern. Knitting this way, freely, has been a very enriching experience. It allowed me to trust myself, my hands and my ability to solve.
When I finished the granny, it occurred to me to use it as a cup holder for the mug my husband gave me last month, that detail that I wanted to cheer me up in the midst of so much sadness. I loved how they combine, both for the colors and for the love behind each one.
Eso sí, me di cuenta de algo importante: necesito un bloqueador de grannys. Aunque quedaron bonitos, no se ven perfectamente cuadraditos. Creo que puede ser también por la calidad de los hilos. Así que me voy a poner en acción para buscar uno que seguro me será muy útil de ahora en adelante.
Este proyecto me ha dado mucha alegría porque tejí con los hilos de mi mamá y porque es la primera vez que tejo sin seguir un patrón. Tejer así, de forma libre, ha sido una experiencia muy enriquecedora. Me permitió confiar en mí, en mis manos y en mi capacidad de resolver.
Al terminar el granny, se me ocurrió usarlo como portavasos para la taza que me regaló mi esposo el mes pasado, ese detalle que buscaba alegrarme en medio de tantas tristezas. Me encantó cómo combinan, tanto por los colores como por el amor que hay detrás de cada uno.
