Hello everyone
Happy Monday and a beautiful day to you all in this community, it's a great day for us all @needleworkmonday where we all showcase our creativity and learn from others as well from their beautiful creative ideas. I hope you all are doing great just as I am doing here having a great time with my sewing machine to bring out something nice and beautiful. Today, I will be sharing with you the lovely outcome of the outfit I made for my husband using African print fabric to make a native top and trousers for Sunday service.
Initially, this fabric was meant to be for a wedding we were to attend but we didn't actually put it on on the wedding day, we later put on a lace fabric and the fabric was kept for another day which made me not to bother sewing it urgently. Just last week, it occurred to me that I was supposed to have made this fabric and present it to my husband as a surprise since he's not always around. To make this outfit for him, I have to first figure out the style to sew and I went online to check out some native African print style for men, luckily enough, I sew this and I like it so much then I decided to sew it.
I saw that the style was easy and simple to make since the style is just on the top alone and my husband wouldn't mind any style as far as I chose and made it for him, so he doesn't have any problem with me choosing the style to make for him.
Without wasting much time, I processed to the cutting and sewing process but first, I made the trouser with the measurement I have with me and I cut out the front and back bodice with a band at the waist where I inserted a rope I made from the fabric
After the cutting and sewing of the trousers, it was set aside as I processed to the cutting and sewing of the top, the remaining fabric was folded in two to cut out the front and it was placed on another folded fabric to cut out the back, both were placed together with the back longer than the front with 4" then I marked out the shoulder, neck and armhole circumference measurement with was connected to the waist and full length measurement before it was cut out with the back overlapping the front just as seen below
Both were cut out and I have this.
The facing for the front was cut and sewn to the back bodice while at the front, I cut and sew the placket on the center front.
I cut out a plain fabric of 4" to make a simple design on the front bodice, it was sewn on the front bodice from one end to another on the waist line.
Another piece of 2.5" was cut out as well to make the second design as I sew it above the other one with 1" interval.
I processed to cut out a short sleeve of 8" with 3" folding allowance.
The sleeves were sewn to the armhole circumference and the side seam allowance were sewn together with a slit by the sides and the hem was folded in by 2".
It was neatly ironed and presented to my husband, he was so happy to have me made his outfit and on Sunday, he wore it to church.
The remaining fabric will be used to make a short gown for myself just as I usually do. I hope you like the beautiful outcome of my husband's native outfit using African print fabric.
