Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
In my last post I shared that I attended a birthday party of Princess Elora and that I made the dress for the mother who is also my friend. In the same post I shared that I will be sharing the step by step process of making the dress in possibly my next post and here we go.
The dress is a flare dress made using crepe fabrics and it came out perfectly, in short it was a showstopper. I was feeling elated inside of me as I see her guests compliment her outfit during the event and I couldn't be more excited to walk you through the process.
Materials Needed
- 3 yards crepe fabric
- Hemming gum
- Zip
- Tailoring chalk
- Matching threads
Step by Step
We will start by drafting the measurements on the fabrics. These are the following measurements we will be using: bust - 36", shoulder - 14", under bust - 30", bust line - 14", waist - 30", half length - 17", full length - 58".
Fold the fabric into two, make sure the wideness is up to 14". Then take the shoulder line measurement which will serve as the start point, bust measurements, under bust and half length.
Then take the bodice measurements, that is, on the shoulder line 14" divided by 2 which is 7", then take the neck width 3", then on the bust point take your round bust measurements which is 36" divided by 4 which is 9", under bust measurements which is 30" divided by 4 which is 7.5", take 7.5" at the waist too.
On the underbust create a dart, use the bust measurements divided by 8 which is 4.5", mark the 4.5" at the underbust line, bust point and waist, then rule the straight line.
At the underbust line take 1" on both sides of the line, rule it down to the waist and use your curve ruler to curve it from the underbust to the bust point. This help to create space for the bust to sit in.
Next, readjust the bodice measurements by taking the measurements again by adding all the darts that shorten the measurements and adding 1" for seam allowance.
Then, for the skirt part we will be using the round waist circumference to cut a flare. The waist measurements is 30" plus 1" allowance, then fold into four and ensure to have a triangular shape. We don’t intend the flare to be too big, it is a moderate one we want.
On the upper side of the triangle which is the smaller part take the waist measurements which is 8.5".
Remember the upper part of the dress is a total of 17" and her full measurement is 58", so 41" is the full length of the flare, cut the flair.
For the back part of the upper dress use the front piece to cut it and make provision for dart. On the dart we are going to be inserting loop.
Next head over to the sewing machine and join all the pieces.
Then attach your zipper at the back and attach ropes to the shoulders to make a ruch.
Do all the finishings and wear the dress on your mannequin to check the fitting.
Your flare gown is ready.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
