After a few days of procrastination and being busy with other things, here I am with my newest bag.
A Pink Bag
Unfortunately the photo doesn't do justice here, the color of the bag is pink, actually a nice one and coming from me is a huge compliment as I truly hate pink. But because I'm not creating for me, I'm trying to diversify my offer, create something for every taste. I know a lot of girls, and women like pink, so why discriminate them? I went through the denim bags on Etsy and could hardly see pink denim bags, I believe there were none, so I'm hoping to sell this one quickly.
With design the zipper part is the hardest. This is the third or the fourth zipper for me and I think I'm getting better at it. This one is way better than the precious one and didn't have to redo any of it.
Please note, the zipper is also recycled. I need to use all the zippers I have as it's a shame to waste them.
The pocket lining is made of cut offs, as those are still valuable, no need to throw them away when I can use them for making pockets.
This is the original pocket of the jeans, I thought it would look good , so this bag has two outer pockets.
The back is simple blue, nothing fancy.
The lining is made of a shirt with pink and grey lines on white. I've been saving this one for a special bag and now that the outer part is pink I thought this would be a good match. The zipper is light pink.
Problems
It's the beginning of the month, so I've cleaned the sewing machine as usual. When I finished the zippered pocket and wanted to put together the rest, this happened. The thread got stuck inside the machine and had to take the cover off again as I knew what happened.
Lucky me, the problem wasn't so serious and took me ten minutes to take out the thread and put the cover back.
New Supplies
This is the best part! I'm like a little kid in a candy store when it comes to threads and believe me, I had to buy some as my collection was made of blue, black, white and gray mostly as I've been working with dark color denim. I needed these pastel colors, plus pink and green, for the new fabrics I got. The kiwi green is a bonus, that's one of my favorite colors and I just couldn't resist, had to buy it. I'd love to buy some fabric that matches that color but it's highly unlikely I will get some. However, who knows, right?
As I said in the beginning of my post, I'm trying to use colors, diversify my portfolio anyway I can. The purple one is new, bought it today.
Upcycling
In case you haven't read any of my posts, I'm buying denim and other fabrics from a second hand shop, that has a very convenient price policy. Prices are under $2 the first day, the second day they are offering 50% discount on any product and the third day everything is sold for like $0.2. It can't get cheaper than this, really.
The good thing is that even though it's a second hand shop, you can buy plenty brand new products that have been discarded because we're living in a fast fashion era, what's trendy in the morning, it's a shame in the evening as it's already out of date. It's a huge waste, taking into consideration how much water and chemicals are used to make these fabrics. I can still use them, and believe me, for me, that shop is a gold mine.
But there are drawbacks as well. You buy what you can get, not what you want. However, I love these days, it's like a scavenger hunt. You go in, take a look and decide on the spot what you can do with that fabric, then decide if it worth buying or not.
I believe I'm the strangest customer of all. Imagine me taking off 10 jeans at once, without trying them on. Who does that? 😁 I'm only looking at the size, color and quality. The bigger the size, the better for me.
A Hack
This is not my invention, I can't take credit for it but I'm going to show you anyway as it may be useful for those who don't know it. This is how you can organize your threads and bobbins. I was having problems organizing them before, the bobbins were always rolling all over the place. This way you can keep them together and no need to spend money is plastic cases.
