In Part 1 of this project I showed how to cut out a pad and cover to fit any ironing board. Now let's finish the cover.
Set aside the padding and work only with the large piece. Finish the raw edges with zigzag stitch, pinking shears, or a serged edge. I used my serger. Then turn under about 1/2 inch all around and stitch near the edge to make a casing for the drawstring, leaving about an inch open at one end to allow the string to be inserted.
Insert some cotton string using a narrow bodkin or a large, blunt tapestry needle. I used size 3 crochet cotton, but hemp cord or ordinary household twine would work, too.
Now place the pad on the board and place your drawstring cover over the pad. Pull the drawstring tight and secure with a cord lock or a knot.
The board is now ready for action.
