ENG / ESP An outfit for Rafaella's new Barbie. / Un conjunto para la nueva Barbie de Rafaella.

At Christmas, a friend of mine gave Rafaella a Barbie as a present. We are grateful for the nice gift, but in my mind, Rafa will surely ask me for dresses for her new doll. I don't know why my daughter thinks that I am a doll dressmaker or something like that, she imagines that I have the power to solve all her requirements when it comes to clothes or accessories for her dolls.

En navidad, una amiga le obsequió una Barbie a Rafaella. Agradecemos el lindo obsequio, pero dentro de mi pensaba, seguramente Rafa me pedirá vestidos para su nueva muñeca. No sé por qué mi hija piensa que yo soy modista de muñecas o algo así, ella imagina que yo estoy en la facultad de poder resolver todos sus requerimientos cuando se trata de ropa o accesorios para sus muñecas.

The thing is, I don't know how to make doll dresses at all. I find it superbly difficult to design, cut and sew something so tiny. I feel my hands are too big for it. Not that this matters to Rafaella and I'm sure she doesn't even think about it, she asked me, just as I had thought, for a dress for her doll's change of clothes. It's true, what fun is there in playing dolls if you can't change their outfits.

El caso es que para nada sé hacer vestidos de muñecas. Me resulta soberanamente difícil diseñar, cortar y coser algo tan diminuto. Siento que mis manos son demasiado grandes para ello. Sin que esto le importe a Rafaella y de seguro ni piensa en eso, me pidió, tal como lo había pensado, un vestido para el cambio de ropa de su muñeca. Es cierto, qué diversión hay en jugar a las muñecas si no se les puede cambiar de outfit.

Asumí el compromiso de hacer al menos un vestido cada cierto tiempo para sus muñecas y en cumplimiento de mi palabra, aquí les presento este vestido que se puede intercambiar y hacer un atuendo distinto, dos en uno.

I made a skirt from a circle. First I cut a square in the fabric, folded it in half then twice more until I got something like a triangle. I drew a curved line from one end to the other and pinned it. I trimmed the following the line and also at the tip. It looked like a big O.

Realicé una falda partiendo de un círculo. Primero corté un cuadro en la tela, lo doble a la mitad luego dos veces más hasta obtener algo como un triángulo. Tracé una línea curva de un extremo a otro y la sujeté con alfileres. Recorté la siguiendo la línea y también en la punta. Quedó como una O grande.

I cut out a rectangle for the waistband, sewed it by joining the edges so that it would remain double and I could insert an elastic. Then I faced it with the inner part of the skirt and sewed joining both pieces when turning the seam will be on the inner part. I inserted the elastic and finished off the ends of the waistband. With a lighter I eliminated all the loose threads and gave me clean edges without the need to do any basting.

Recorte un rectángulo para la pretina, lo cosí uniendo los bordes para que se mantuviera doble y así poder introducir un elástico. Luego lo confronte con la parte interna de la falda y cosí uniendo ambas piezas al dar vuelta la costura quedará en la parte interna. Introduje el elástico y remate los extremos de la pretina. Con un encendedor eliminé todos los hilos que estaban sueltos y me dio bordes limpios sin la necesidad de hacer ruedos.

With a rectangle a little wider than the bust, I made a top with gathers in the front. I placed an elastic in the back to help Rafa put it on and take it off.

Con un rectángulo un poco más ancho del busto realicé un top con fruncido al frente. Coloqué un elástico en la espalda para ayudar a Rafa a colocarlo y quitarlo.

With the transparent and printed fabric I made something similar to a tunic and when I say “something” is because I had no idea how to make it, I just followed my intuition and took advantage of the union of the fabrics since they are scraps that I took from an old dress. I also finished off the edges with the lighter and it gives it a nice touch like a fairy dress.

Con la tela transparente y con estampado realicé algo parecido a una túnica y cuando digo “algo” es porque no tenía la más mínima idea de como hacerla, solo seguí mi intuición y aproveché la unión de las telas ya que son retazos que saqué de un viejo vestido. También rematé las orillas con el encendedor y le da un bonito toque como de vestido de hadas.

When placing the dress we can do it with the tunic underneath or just the top with the skirt. I like it better with the tunic, but it's all about taste. Rafaella likes the green part better. I would like to make more dresses for my little daughter as she likes to play with dolls, only when she has enough to dress them and exchange clothes. I bid you farewell wishing you a blessed day.

A la hora de colocar el vestido podemos hacerlo con la túnica debajo o bien solo el top con la falta. A mí me gusta más con la túnica, aunque se trata de gustos. A Rafaella le gusta más la parte verde. Deseo hacer más vestidos para mí pequeña hija ya que a ella le gusta jugar a las muñecas, solo cuando tiene para vestirlas e intercambiar ropa.
