Good Monday to all friends of Hive and Needle Work Monday. I hope you had a great weekend and that you were able to make the most of your time, either resting or catching up on your pending projects. For my part, this past week was great and I was able to do a lot of things, I used my time to do everything I wanted and that included completing one more project than all the ones I have in mind. It is about this short that I made for my oldest niece; hope you like it ❤️.

Espero que hayan pasado un fin de semana genial y que hayan podido aprovechar al máximo su tiempo, ya sea descansando o poniendose al día con sus proyectos pendientes. Por mi parte, esta semana que pasó fue genial y pude hacer muchas cosas, usé mi tiempo para hacer todo lo que quería y eso incluyó completar un proyecto más de todos los que tengo en mente. Se trata de este short que hice para mi sobrina más grande; espero que les guste ❤️.
This weekend my nieces were at home for a walk and every time they come I like to share time with them. We go for a walk, we play, we study a bit and I also like to sew something for them if we have some time left. A few weeks ago I did a sewing project for Magui, who is the youngest and since then I have been waiting to do something for Bianca, who is her older sister. For her it occurred to me to make a short that I think she will wear more than a dress, or so I hope 😅.
Este fin de semana mis sobrinas estuvieron de paseo en casa y cada vez que vienen me gusta compartir tiempo con ellas. Salimos a pasear, jugamos, estudiamos un poco y también me gusta coser algo para ellas si nos queda algo de tiempo. Hace unas semanas hice un proyecto de costura para Magui, que es la menor y desde entonces me quedó pendiente hacer algo para Bianca, que es su hermana mayor. Para ella se me ocurrió hacer un short que pienso que lo va a usar más que un vestido, o eso espero 😅.
This is another one of my many "just in case" fabrics. The truth is that I've had it for a long time and I always knew that it would have to be a project for my nieces because of the childish print it has, but I had never gotten down to work until now. I forgot to take a picture of the fabric before cutting it, but it was an incomplete project of my aunt's: a large rectangle with a waistband and ruffled bottom, 95% ready to be a long skirt. I guess my aunt will have sewn this more than 20 years ago when the fashion was to wear skirts of this style, but the years passed and so did the fashion, so I used it for something else more "wearable" this days 😃.
Esta es otra de mis tantas telas "por si acaso". La verdad es que la tengo hace bastante y siempre supe que tendrían que ser un proyecto para mis sobrinas por el estampado infantil que tiene, pero nunca había puesto manos a la obra hasta ahora. Olvidé sacarle foto a la tela antes de cortarla, pero se trataba de un proyecto incompleto de mi tía: un gran rectángulo con pretina y volado abajo, preparado en un 95% para ser una falda larga. Supongo que mi tía habrá cosido esto hace más de 20 años cuando la moda era usar polleras de este estilo, pero pasaron los años y también la moda, así que lo destiné a otra cosa más "usable" en estos días 😃.
I confess that I was very sorry to cut this fabric, but I knew that it would continue to be stored as a skirt, perhaps it could have been used in a school act but nothing more than that. It was better if it did something more useful and I set out to transform it into these shorts. For that, I took advantage of the waistband as a hem and I would only put elastic on the top. A simple job indeed ❤️.
Confieso que me dió mucha pena cortar esta tela, pero sabía que como pollera seguiría quedando guardada, quizás podría haberse usado en algún acto escolar pero nada más que eso. Era mejor si hacía algo más útil y me propuse transformarla en este pantalón corto. Para eso aproveche la pretina como dobladillo y solo me quedaría poner elástico en la parte superior. Un trabajo sencillo en verdad ❤️.
I did this project in two afternoons. The first afternoon I cut the fabric and then joined the pieces, leaving the elastic for later. The second afternoon, when I measured the pants on Bianca, I realized that I was too big. This forced me to have to reduce the sides and once again finish it neatly with zigzag stitching and stepping on the seam allowance. I am very careful with the neatness of my work so once again I took the trouble to make it look good. The only thing that didn't look so neat on me were the seams on the waistbands: the stitching lines they had didn't match perfectly, but this was something that was done before so I couldn't change it 😶.
Este proyecto lo hice en dos tardes. La primera tarde corté la tela y después uní las piezas, dejando el elástico para luego. La segunda tarde, cuando medí el pantalón en Bianca, me dí cuenta de que me había quedado demasiado grande. Esto me obligó a tener que achicar los costados y otra vez hacerle la terminación prolija con costura zigzag y pisando el mmargen de costura. Soy muy cuidadosa con la prolijidad de mis trabajos así que otra vez me tomé la molestia de que quede bien. Lo único que no me quedó tan prolijo fueron las uniones de las pretinas: las lineas de costura que tenían no coincidieron perfectamente, pero esto era algo que estaba hecho desde antes así que no podía cambiarlo 😶.
The idea of making shorts also occurred to me because a few days ago at the fair I got a bunch of scraps of elastic and some zippers, all for less than 1 USD. I honestly didn't know why I wanted so many elastics and closures, but for that price I couldn't say no. Usually when I make clothes and need elastics I use the ones that are for lingerie, which are quite expensive because they are shiny or decorated elastics, so I was happy to get these common ones at a good price so I don't have to sacrifice my other nicer supplies 😅.
La idea de hacer un short también se me ocurrió porque hace unos días en la feria conseguí un montón de retazos de elásticos y unos cierres, todo por menos de 1 USD. Honestamente no sabía para qué quería tantos elásticos y cierres, pero por ese precio no pude decir que no. Generalmente cuando hago ropa y necesito elásticos uso los que son para lencería, que son bastante costosos porque son elásticos brillantes o decorados, así que me alegré de conseguir estos comunes a buen precio así no tengo que sacrificar mis otros insumos más lindos 😅.
After doing a whole puzzle with the elastics to get to the necessary measurement, I finally sewed the waist. Since this elastic was embedded in the fabric, I didn't worry because it was black or because I was using white thread, everything would be covered in the end 😀.
Después de hacer todo un rompecabezas con los elásticos para llegar hasta la medida necesaría, finalmente cosí la cintura. Como este elástico quedó embutido en la tela no me preocupé porque fuera negro ni por estar usando hilo blanco, total todo quedaría tapado al final 😃.
Finally, so that the front part of the short can be easily identified, I added a small bow. The truth is that I did not know that I had some pink tape, I do not know where it came from but it is good that I kept it. At the beginning I had left only the bow, but since I didn't have thread of the exact shade I didn't like how it turned out, until it occurred to me to add a button. That way it was neater, don't you think 😃?
Finalmente, para que se pueda identificar fácilmente la parte de adelante del short agregué un pequeño moño. La verdad que no sabía que tenía algo de cinta rosa, no sé de donde apareció pero que bueno que la conservé. Al principio había dejado solo el moño, pero como no tenía hilo del tono exacto no me gustó como quedó, hasta que se me ocurrió agregar un botón. Así quedó más prolijo, ¿no les parece 😃?
And after about 3 hours of work, this is how these shorts turned out. I think it looks really cute and it's just right for Bianca that she's about to turn 9, I can't believe time has gone by so fast. She is very grateful for everything she is given and she is one of the virtues that I like the most in someone, so I hope she likes it and she can wear this outfit when we go for a walk again ❣️.
Y después de como 3 horas de trabajo, así quedó este pantaloncito. Pienso que se ve muy lindo y es justo para Bianca que está por cumplir sus 9 años, no puedo creer que el tiempo haya pasado tan rápido. Ella es muy agradecida con todo lo que se le da y es una de las virtudes que más me gusta en alguien, así que espero que le guste y pueda usar este outfit para cuando vayamos a pasear de nuevo ❣️.
I still have the other part of this fabric, which would be the entire ruffle of the original skirt. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, probably another dress for the other little girl, but I have to make sure that I reach the piece that was left. I'm glad I was able to take advantage of this in something a little more useful: the print is very cute and 90's, right from the time this fabric comes from. Who would have thought that this girls would end up using it 20 year later, life is totally unpredictable 😅.
Todavía me queda la otra parte de esta tela, que sería todo el volado de la pollera original. No sé que voy a hacer con eso, seguramente otro vestido para la nena más chiquita, pero tengo que asegurarme de que me alcance el retazo que quedó. Me alegra haber podido aprovechar esto en algo un poco más útil: el estampado es muy lindo y noventoso, justo de la época de la que proviene esta tela. Quien diría que la terminarían usando unas niñas que en ese momento ni siquiera estaba en los planes, la vida es totalmente impredecible 😅.
